Well, at least I know I am missed if I don't post on a thread where I am expected to make an appearance!
Sorry....very preoccupied for the last few days (actually the last couple of weeks). But I had to come on and join my friends in the character breakfast discussion. I wouldn't let you all down!
Anyway, I am so glad to see that some folks stepped in to wave the Goofy's Kitchen banner in my absence. DizneeLuver would have been a good spokesperosn for that as well, but she has vanished! What is always funny to me is that, depending on the week, depending on which DIS-ers happen to be on the DIS at any given moment, the same question could come up - Which character meal is best? - and the answers will differ. One week, you might see mostly Storytellers-slanted replies. The next week, it could be all votes for Minnie & Friends. And another week, those of us in the Goofy's Kitchen contingent are speaking the loudest. So it goes to show that you never know exactly what info you will get at which time, but it is a much-discussed topic on this board so the debate will forge ahead!
I read all of the posts about all of the character meals, by the way. I pay very close attention to what you all say about your experiences at the 5 different character meals, and I try to encourage everyone to post their character meal photos on our character meal photo thread. I do this because every time a new member of the DIS asks about which character meal to choose, I can pass on what I have learned from the good folks here and seen from everyone here to give them a better overall view of what each one has to offer.
Goofy's will probably always be my favorite, simply because I am content with the experience there and it is a tradition for me. But, from all of the feedback I read in your posts, to me, it seems like Minnie & Friends has sort of taken over in what Goofy's used to do. In the old, old days, Goofy's was the only character meal in DLR at all. And at that time, I remember a constant onslaught of character visits to our table. It was always very hard for me to eat because every time I would stuff a piece of pineapple in my mouth, here would come Roger Rabbit dancing up to the table or something!
It was very distracting for me. There were a lot of characters there because it was the only character meal.
So now, it appears that M&F has become the place to find the most characters. I still plan to go there at some point and test it out for myself, but I am okay with the number of characters at Goofy's. I like to be able to eat my food ( I really love the large variety and quality of food at GK) without being interrupted every 2 minutes. So a handful of characters is fine for me. Then I can get a good blend of character time and meal time. I usually seem to be at GK when there are about 7 characters or so - 5 may be there at first and then 2 more may trickle in. That number - or less - would be okay with me because, to me, it is worth it. And from what I have read in DIS-ers' posts, it seems like at times, there may be only 4 Princesses at Ariel's or 4 characters at Lilo & Stitch, and I have seen only 4 at Storytellers before. So that specific number of characters is not so unusual when you compare all the meals except Minnie and Friends side by side. But I think Goofy's has set a higher bar for itself because the prices are so dang high and there are no menu options. If GK were to add a menu ordering option as well as the buffet, I think people might be more willing to accept the fewer characters (meaning like 4 or 5, let's say). But as it stands, the buffet prices are high, you never know if you are going to get 4 characters or 9 characters at GK, some people don't eat enough to justify a buffet and Minnie & Friends has more characters at a cheaper price (though very mixed reviews on the food quality).
So while I am still championing Goofy's and I am personally fine with the character interaction and the food, I can totally see where other people would be put off because it seems to them like they are getting more for less at the other meals and getting less for more at GK.
