Which cell phone service?

I need to change my cell phone service and I'd like something that gets reception in NJ/NYC and Orlando! Any suggestions? I currently have ATT and they are horrible. I can't even get service in my own apartment standing by the window!

Considering T-mobile, Cingular and (VERY reluctantly due to horrid customer service problsm) Verizon. Any suggestions?

I totally agree about AT & T. I recently took out a 2 year plan with them and I am experiencing terrible service also. I wish I had a way to opt out without losing a lot of money.

My husband has T-mobile and he has excellent service.

I have verizon it works great in NY & NJ. I've always had good service when in Orlando also.

I see you live in New Jersey. Though you have strong feelings against Verizon, they are the ones I would suggest.

I had Cingular for a couple years and I hated it. I couldn't get service anywhere. I was basically paying for a cell phone I couldn't use.

I have a good friend who has T-Mobile. Though he gets service, the service is always fuzzy. Even his voicemail message isn't clear. He's thinking about switching to Verizon.

Verizon is great with service. I have the nationwide plan and I get service everywhere. In NYC, up and down NJ, in Orlando. I had great service in Key West, as well.

I am very happy with Verizon.

I was a Cingular customer for years but they totally messed up my account when I started paying them via on-line banking. They were taking over two weeks to process the check, and blaming me for it.

I gave them FIVE opportunities to get their act together, but they couldn't.

Verizon service has been excellent so far--have had them almost one year.

Thanks everyone for your input! So I'm still stuck. Now I'm thinking either between T-mobile or Verizon (still very hesitantly).

I've just had some REALLY bad customer service from Verizon. From them over charging me to giving me a LOT of difficultly cancelling when I was moving overseas temporarily. But it does sound like they have the best reception up here.

I used to have Voicestream (before they became T-mobile) and I never got any reception when it rained! i hope that once they became T-mobile that reception in NJ/NYC would be better. I know Cingular uses T-mobile's towers in the city so I thought T-mobile instead of Cingular might be a better choice.

And the one that gets me is the plan...T-mobile seems more of a "deal" when it comes to a "family plan."

I also agree about AT&T. I have 1 year down and 1 year to go. I can''t wait to switch. My DH also has Verizon with no problem.

i highly recommend verizon. i currently have t mobile. no real complaints. but my friend has verizon and its better.

We have T-mobile. I am currently having trouble with their
accounting department (since December they've really messed
up our billing, very incompetent IMHO). Also, their service comes
and goes when travelling in a big way. We had good service while in Orlando last December but there were many times we
couldn't get service on I-77 and I-95 on the way down there,
cell phone towers all around us and WE had NO SERVICE.
We also have trouble with service in certain corners of our home.
We are with them because of their generous family plan, we
need the minutes between phones. I'm hoping someone comes
out with comparable in the next 6 months. That's my $.02

I have T-Mobile here in the midwest, and it works fine. I wll find out in 39 days if it works in Orlando- I hope so!

Verizon was horrible here!!!! We moved and they would not take my address change from me- had to talk to my DH. They refused to let me know how much the bill was and DH kept forgetting to give them permission to talk to me about it, so I just wouldn't pay until my husband would finally get around to calling (usually when the phone was turned off) then they would tack on charges that were never discussed when DH would get service started again. I understand this was mostly DH's fault in the first place, but they were not helpful at all, curt and rude and you had to wait FOREVER for someone to get on the line with you. The connection was bad too.

I liked Sprint PCS, but got rid of phones for a while and restarted T-mobile was cheaper.

Consumer reports rated Verizon the best out of all the cell companies and said it has the best customer service.

Just switched to T-mobile from ATT. ATT was horrible. So far good with T-mobile. I love my phone and service.

with tmobile, i recommend that if u r going to get a new phone, get one without an antenna. ive had a lot better luck with the 4 phones that ive had with the 2 phones with no antenna.

I've had Cingular quite a few years and am very happy with them. I just moved from FL to VA...the nearest Cingular store is 43 miles away! I think they're actually closer to NC than they are to me! And I just bought this phone in December and signed for 2 years. I wonder if I'll even be able to get a local VA number with them!

Thanks to all! I'm particularly grateful for the information about getting a phone withOUT an antenna from neosnightmare! (That kind of surprises me).

I've got a little bit of time before I have to decide so let's see if Verizon will come out with a good family plan(I'm with you there shortbun). Otherwise, T-mobile it might be.

I guess my hesitation is that although Verizon has reportedly better reception (for both NY/NJ and Orlando), I've just had terrible customer service from them each time I tried to go back (I've been back and forth from them for years). T-mobile offers $50 for 2 lines vs. Verizon's $60 for 2 lines. That doesn't include the taxes, FCC charges etc which add up. And the kicker is Continental offers 5000 extra miles with T-mobile (which may help for a future trip back to WDW!)

So now with neonightmare's suggestion..I'm going cell phone comparision itself now between the 2!
