Hi I was wondering if someone could tell me at which beaches would you find the best shells?

We went to Cocoa Beach and Daytona and found none. St./ Pete's had a little more but nothing like I remember when I was little.

Sanibel Island is the best, though even there it seems to vary from visit to visit.

Sanibel without a doubt.

Best Beach for Shelling: Sanibel Island (800-237-6444, www.FortMyers-Sanibel.com)
With more than 400 varieties of shells, Sanibel Island is so popular with shell seekers that it holds an annual three-day Sanibel Shell Fair and Show in the spring and has a name for the shell seeker’s posture: "The Sanibel Stoop." Sanibel is equally respected for its beauty and the community’s commitment to preserving it.

Boca Grande had the best shells I have ever seen! This was over 17 years ago, but I pray it hasn't changed. Words could not describe the beauty of this beach.

Happy shelling!

Egmont Key on our side. Venice for shark teeth.

How did you get to Egmont Key? I understand it's only accessible by boat. We will be staying at St Pete Beach one night and I'd love to take a trip out to Egmont Key, but I wasn't sure the most cost-effective (cheap!) way to make the trip? Any info you have would be greatly appreciated!!

it's an island, so you need a boat or know someone that has one. :) if you're just visiting us, there's a ferry that runs out of Fort DeSoto just south of St. Pete beach. a portion of the original fort on Egmont has slid into the Gulf, making for great snorkeling.

since it's an outer barrier island, the shelling is great because it's not flocked by tourists like Sanibel.

Let's bring this back to the top-which is the best beach for shelling but closest to Disney. Also - what is the water like in January?
