Thinking about maybe making an afternoon trip to a beach if we have time. Probably do EE at DL on a Saturday then when it gets too crowded we'll leave(probably by noon). We'd like something for families and short drive from DL.
Thanks!

Newport Beach gets lots of good reviews for families with young kids. I am not local to that area, this is the one people keep recommending to us. We never seem to make it, always spending more time in the parks than we thought we would. :D

Corona Del Mar is also a good beach for families because it is somewhat secluded (It's actually right next to Newport). From DL, Take the 5 fwy south about 8 miles to the 55 Fwy. Take the 55 Fwy south until it ends and becomes Newport Blvd (about another 8 miles). Contiue south on Newport Blvd about 2 miles to Pacific Coast Hwy (Hwy 1). Take PCH South (south is left, but you may have to turn right and swing back under Newport blvd.) about 3 miles to Marguerite. Turn right on Marguerite for about 4-5 blocks to Ocean Blvd which runs along the top of the cliff overlooking the beach. The street leading down to the beach is right off of Ocean Blvd.
