Which Avatar ride are you picking first?

From what I saw on the "sneak peek" type videos, the ride is similar to Soarin' with 3D glasses but the ride veshicle require you to straddle a "banshee" for the full effect. Interested to see how this works.

This is what I can't fully figure out. So..basically...like sitting on a "furry" saddle? Wondering how you strap in. And does it have the same potential of movement as a mechanical bull? This will be very interesting to see.

We are doing the River Journey, I'm really not sure if our 4 year old, or myself for that matter will be able to handle the other. If he's even tall enough! So happy we got our FP!!

I make fast passes tomorrow and I am wondering if I should pick one over the other for our first AK day on June 13th? What are others doing?
River Journey because I wanted that one to be at night. I can do flight of passage anytime.

I went with River Journey because I think FoP will have higher capacity.
This is what we are thinking for our August trip. One day only at AK, so want to make the right choice :thumbsup2! Do you know if both of these rides will be dark? I'm assuming so after seeing the commercials on tv, but like PP mentioned, I don't know much about Avatar movie so I'm having trouble imagining .... Is the boat ride inside / covered? It looks so beautiful in the commercials, but I'm not sure if it's inside or outside. I like how it's dark and wonder if I need to book night time FP or if it's inside and always dark. Not sure if I'm even making sense:-)

Both rides are inside. The boat ride will be set at night in the bioluminescence. The Flight of Passage attraction will be in a "dark" theater but will have scenes during the day.

Thank you for explaining- it must be the bioluminescence that I found to be so beautiful! Glad I can ride during day and still experience this. :thanks:

We will be there the last week of August. Right now it says AK is closing at 9pm. Do many of you think those hours will be extended with the new avatar land?

Yes but I want to experience the night time attraction at night rather than during the day. Tree Awakenings, Pandora at night and capped off with the river journey. Its not as important for me with flight of passage since there is more set during the day.

I really need to know how this works... my 8 year old is tall enough but this sounds like it would freak her out.

I think there is a UTube video of a morning show correspondent getting on the ride which indicates a straddle position with a Soarin type experience, I will try to find a link. It showed a host boarding the ride with 3D glasses in a straddling position with restraints.

Correct. I have that video and more in the official Pandora thread.

I chose NRJ for our FP. My reason is that I am sure that I can do the NRJ, but I am not sure yet if I am going to be able to ride the other attraction. My wife and I both have disabilities and are Pooh sized, so we are waiting to hear more about what the other ride seating is like before we commit to trying to do it.

I thought I would wait for Josh and the DISers to figure out the best strategy and do that. I think that most of us will FPs one and RD the other.

Were doing AK twice so FOP the first day, then NRJ the second day.

Same. I had an extra day on my tix so after the May opening announcement was made, I decided we would go to AK on arrival day....after 9 hours of driving. Just going to do the FPs and head on back to the resort. But it'll be awesome to see Pandora that first night.

:thumbsup2 Nice! I like your spirit of adventure after a nine hour ride.Sounds like a good plan...hit some FP and then head back and rest up for your first full day!
