Well after working for myself, I'm back to a "real" job. I accepted a postion at much less money then I should be making, and far under what some offers would be (less then half the money up to 1/4 in some cases). But it will be a good mental health position, and a great experinence to boot, and lacks the stresses of "corporate" America. On paper and in discussions with my new to be boss, it sounds like my perfect job. As many of you know I am a "foodie" and I enjoy an occasional adult beverage. Also since I am an artisan, I have a creative eye. So you ask what is it I will be doing? I will be a supervisor for a gift and gourmet department of a large wine and liquor store. I will be building my department from the ground floor. It is a newly created postion with I hope lots of potential growth. I will be building gift baskets, sourcing gourmet chocolates, coffees, candies, snacks, etc. I'm very (cautiosly) excited.

So please tell me I'm not crazy for going with my gut and what I enjoy, over money and stress.

Congratulations and GOOD LUCK.

It ain't all ABOUT THE MONEY. It's about being happy ( yes money can make things easier so that you are happier ) but if this is something you think you will enjoy and you are happy Great for you .

I wish you the nest of luck !!!! :thumbsup2

If you can do what you love, you are so lucky. I think you have found a great fit.

You do what you want to do! Sounds like a wonderful and exciting challenge. I too love food, and having a job like that would be heaven.

Enjoy!

If you enjoy your job, it will be less stressful. That is worth the peace of mind and lower paycheck. Plus it sounds like it will still be challenging to build up that department.

Have fun, and best of luck!!

Congratulations!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

I am a big believer in doing what you love. My husband and I struggled financially for years so that I could remain home when my children were babies...and I loved every minute of it. Now, long gone are the days when I needed to plan a month ahead to buy a pair of shoes, my daughters are AMAZING young women who appreciate all that we did together and it taught them a valuable lesson.

i hope you get lots of tasty samples and when you do please share :thumbsup2

Congrats and good luck!

Will there be an online place to order these goodies? popcorn::

Thank you everyone.

Technically it it a part time position (30 hours) but if I bring in the sales, they'll be changes. But with PT, I can keep some focus on my GLBT stained glass business. Since I have no weekend requirement (unheard of in retail) I can hopfully do some pride and other GLBT events. I have turned over my ebay business to my previous silent partner for now.

Mike, eventually I will have an online presence. The store does alot of internet sales now for collectible and hard to find wines. I already discussed with them that I want to direct attention to online and corporate sales.

   CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

It sounds like a job that offers some opportunitiess for your creative side! FWIW, I walked away from a high paying but soul-crushing job last year on my birthday. Honestly, I was worried that I might never work again. I was wrong; am now working for 1/3 what I used to make but I am having SUCH a good time now. From personal experience, I highly recommend Downward Mobility.:rotfl:

I took a move not unlike this four years ago. I was making gobs of money in an incredibly high-profile and impressive job with a TV network in Los Angeles, California... but at the same time horribly unhappy.

I quit and came home to Canada for a lot less. Less than you did I'll bet. How much less? Well .. let's just say I would have been DELIGHTED to get 1/4 the money I had been making in California.. But I didn't.

Things are better now as I've settled into my new career after a few years and finances are glowing again.

It was the right move for me.

Which is the longest way ever to say.. GO WITH YOUR GUT. It's almost NEVER wrong. :)

Congratulations tiggr33
well have drink to you and your new job in sept.

Thank you. The new job didn't balk at all about the vacations I have planned (and refuse to cancel).

Awesome news Stacey - like others said - it's not all about the money! Though that's nice too! If it will make you happy - then go for it!

:thumbsup2
