We find the room, I insert the key, Leo steps ahead of me into the room and exclaims, “Wow – THIS is a NICE room!” You’d think we’d stayed at the Bates Motel last night from his reaction. Which makes me seriously question where his Dad’s been taking him on their weekends together…
The Disney Reservation Gods may have been slow, but they set us up nicely: room 5164, first floor of the South Wing, a mere 3 doors in from the doors to the parking lot… directly in front of which, earlier in the day, I scored a parking space! If I didn’t have to traverse that nasty, ouchy FL grass, I could just bring our luggage in through our sliding doors. Yes, technically, it was a parking lot view, but the Disney horticulturalists thoughtfully planted some shrubbery
(does anyone else immediately flash to Monty Python and the Holy Grail every time they see that word?) between the patio and parking lot, so our view was immediately drawn to the right, where the Tower stood in all it’s majesty.
We looked around and I took some photos to prove I’d actually made it to that holy of holies, the Contemporary Resort.
I’ve dreamed of staying at this place since my first visit with my Dad in 1977. (I think we stayed at a Hojo’s that trip.) Over the years, many mighty forces have worked against my attempts to secure a CR room: no Annual Pass (AP) discount; no rooms available at AP discount; rooms and AP discount available, but AP expired and no money to renew… you get the picture. So this was a BIG deal. Did it measure up? Honestly, not so much. Don’t get me wrong, it was nice, and I do like the new decorating scheme. But I expect a Deluxe resort to at least be on par with a big city Marriott. And if I had paid full price, I’d have expected something much closer to a Four Seasons. I’ve never stayed at a Marriott or Four Seasons room in which the duvets had chocolate smears all over them (or was it chocolate? Eeeewww…

), someone had drawn all over the loveseat with a pen, and it had clearly not been vacuumed. Not impressed. If we were staying more than one night, I definitely would have placed a call to housekeeping, but for one night it wasn’t worth the bother.
Leo, however LOVED the room. So much so, that when I started thinking out loud and said “Where should we head to tonight?” he responded “I stay in the room.”
Me: “You want to stay in the room all night?”
Leo: “Yes.”
Me: “You don’t want to do some rides before bed?”
Leo: “No, I stay here in the room.”
Me: “What about dinner?”
Leo: “We eat here, IN THE ROOM!”
I’m hot, tired and loooove room service – I’ve got the In Room Dining menu out before Leo knows what’s happening. Leo gets showered while we wait and dinner arrives shortly thereafter. Here’s another thing I don’t love about the CR – no table with chairs. There is a desk, but only one chair. You can’t see the TV from the loveseat, so that’s no good for Leo. But housekeeping had left an extra sheet laying on one of the beds – I unfold it on the floor, and voila! Leo has a picnic!
And he gets a special treat
(which will haunt me and every person within 10 yards of from here on out) from his very special friend Stitch:
Dinner is eaten, movies watched and Leo falls asleep easily. Me, I’m not quite ready for sleep. But I did think to bring the DVD player in from the car. Oh boy! Some uninterrupted time to watch Dallas reruns on DVD!!! This place really is magical
Coming up tomorrow: the day all my
Lime green dreams will come true?
