we're planning for April next year and trying to figure out the best savannah view to stay at

i have a few questions about it.

on the map i've circled what i think would be the better units to stay in because it would be great to have the resort in the back ground of some pictures and not be too close to the structure in the middle of the U shape. are the units i circled good or great views?

is one side better for sunrise and the other for sunset? know what i mean? if you're on the right side are you in the shadow at sunset and the left side is bathed in sunlight? or are they both sunrise? i can't figure where the sun sets and rises

anyone know where the "pit" room is - i saw a post and people were saying stay away from that or those rooms.

also people were talking about what floor they were on - 5th floor was too far and ground floor they didn't see much

what's your experience?

can you pinpoint great rooms on this map for me

our dd will be 3.5 y.o. and would love this experience

Thanks.

We were in room 2365 this past September (Arusha Savanna) and it was great. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the room being on the lower level, but it was great sitting there and watching a giraffe pass you by at eye level. I don’t think I would have liked being up higher. I also believe that our room was by one the buildings the animals went to for feeding and maintenance. So every time I went out on the balcony there was an animal in sight. The ONLY problem with this room was the distance from the bus stop. We couldn’t have been in a further room from the busses, and after being in the Magic Kingdom for 10 hours the last thing you want to do is trek all the way back to your room!! But other than that, it was great!!

NOW with that being said, it looks like you are an AKV owner? If this is the case the villa's are a different building and would have completely different views then the AKL.

HTH,

Brian

oh?? i wondered that - but couldn't find a map of the DVC rooms so i wasn't sure what was happening.

does anyone have a map of the DVC part?

The only AKV villas open at this time are on the 5th and 6th floors of the Lodge building (called "Jambo House"). The 5th floor goes all around the horseshoe and along the short trails along the front. The 6th floor is very small -- just on either side of the lobby and is Concierge only.

The new building (Kidani Village) is still under construction.

oh - i knew about the concerege level

does anyone know when Kidani Village will open? before April 09?

There are more than just Concierge rooms in Jambo House, in fact only 5 of the 82 2BR lockoffs in the Lodge building are Concierge. Most of the 5th floor is AKV and consists of Value villas, Standard View villas and Savanna View villas.

does anyone know when Kidani Village will open? before April 09?
The original plan was that the first phase of Kidani would open in early 2009. Construction is ahead of schedule and there have been rumors that the first phase might open late this year but nothing has been announced yet.

As noted, you might have the option of Kidani next April, but we just don't know yet; the building in the map you show includes all DVC units at this time. When you call in May, 11 months out, you will have the option only for Jambo (AKL buiilding) because they won't be taking Kidani ressies then even if it will be open next April (you will likely be able to switch later). The sun sets on the left side of your map if you are facing the map. The Arusha savanna is one in center of the U. All rooms you have circled with Arusha view are fine. The others looking outside the U should also be fine (right side is Uzima, left side Sunset savanna). moreover the rooms with Arusha view that you have not circled because they are closer to the lobby/viewing area are good too.

ok - i have a better understanding now.

i looked up google earth and tried to find the construction but i don't think they've updated the map in the recent past and can't find it.

i've circled where it looks like they cleared land for the new DVC building but i'm not sure if i'm right.

anyone know if what i circled in yellow is the location of the new buildings?

i'll also add that i LOVE google earth. i can zoom in on any park any time i want to dream about going back.

When we were at AKL Saturday looking around, we could see construction from the veiwing area behind the lobby area Sorry I'm not more familiar with AKL to be able to give you an exact location, this was our first visit....we wanted to see where we had just ADDED ON at.
