Where's The Alice Buzz At?

Ive just got back from Alice in wonderland 3D

Its a good film,but it maybe to dark for some peoples liking

The 3D is ok,not up to the standards of Avater.but nice and clean looking,the young lady that plays alice(Mia Wasilowska) is great,and so are some of the smaller charactors.
But i was let down by jonny depp,looks great,he looks alot like madonna in Drag,lol.
For some reason,when the mad hatter gets angry he starts to speak in a scottish accent,and it did not work for me.
(Helena Bonham Carter)As the red queen was great,(Crispin Glover)As Stayne-Knave of hearts,was so wooden that he made Ashton Kutcher look like a good actor,(Stephen Fry)as Cheshire cat was very good as well as (Matt Lucas) as Tweedledum and tweedledee.

I will say this,if you have children under the age of 6/7,it might be a bit to much for them,its very dark in places,and not as light hearted and fun as the trailer shows.

but its a new take on a classic story.

I went to a private screening a few days before the release and let me tell you it has stuck with me! I loved it. I don't wanna give anything away as far as what they included from the book and what they didn't, so it's hard for me to get into what I thought of it, but i'll try...

Just a disclaimer, i'm a huge Burton and Depp fan - huge, and I grew up on Alice in Wonderland. It would be pretty hard for me to hate this movie but that said, I did have some problems with it and after I let it sink in a few days I like it more.

You can't deny that visually, it's stunning. You just don't see stuff like this, and to me that's a plus. So many films offer the exact same thing, so I love anything that's different.

I think that you need to look at it as a singular movie. Burton has said he had no intention of it being a sequel to Disney's Alice or any other Alice film. If you just look at it as a new, interesting Burton film, I think you will like it more than if you connect it with Disney's Alice and/or your childhood memories of the story because you're never going to love it as much as you remember loving Alice as a kid. I really enjoyed it though. It's crazy and fun.

My nephew is seven and excited to see Alice. He loves Nightmare Before Christmas and is a Johnny Depp fan. Do you think he will like it? I have been on the fence about taking him. It looks creepy and more adult to me. From what I've seen, it just doesn't look like a movie that kids (under 12) will enjoy.

I think that if your nephew enjoyed Nightmare Before Christmas (and if he's seen the new Willy Wonka) he will probably enjoy this. It was actually less creepy and "out there" than I expected it to be. While I wouldn't recommend it for all younger children, it seems like your nephew might enjoy it.

Although visually there's absolutely no comparison, it reminded me a little bit of Return to OZ.

I saw it this evening. OMG, it was SUCH a good movie. I never expected it (mainly because I find Tim Burton movies just creepy) but Alice in Wonderland was EXCELLENT.

Hi Lisa, the movie is very dark (even the colors) if I was a kid I don't think I would enjoyed that much, but I must say that when I was a kid I didn't like Tim Burton that much (I love bright and colorful cartoons). I think he will like it..there are some creepy scenes but if he enjoys Tim Burton's movies I think he should be ok. Let me know how it went.

Cannot wait to see this! Looks simply amazing, and frankly, I've looked forward to this more than any other film of the past year. Only thing I'm half as excited about is Toy Story 3!

Only problem is, my wife wants to see it badly as well, but is just getting over a 2 week stay in the hospital, yes, she is doing OK, for a kidney issue and can't sit that long. Probably have to wait another week or so, but love what I'm seeing in reviews so far.

I think they didn't do a good enough job in explaining that it is a "sequel" to the orginial story. Alice is an adult, returning to Wonderland. Many of the negative reviews I've seen seem to be surprised by this.

Our local reviewer gave it 5 stars. We are seeing it this afternoon.

Of course I'm a HUGE Burton fan, so I'm super excited.

it looks like...........much to my surprise.........that the movies first weekend is going to out perform industry expectations. most analysts projected 60 to 70 million domestically.............it looks very much like 110 million is the number............some of this is that people are just going to the movies more.........box office is always higher in tough economic times when we can get away from the negative media and such if only for a few hours and without taking out a loan to do it.

I went with three friends and my two younger sons this morning to see it in 3D. All of us except one adult are huge Burton fans, so we were so excited! We LOVED it! The one adult who is not a Burton fan said she did not love it, but she did enjoy it and thought it was worth the money to see it. The ensemble cast was wonderful. I'll be honest, I really thought it would be Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter that would be my favorite, but it turned out to be Alice. I will agree with everyone that this is a very dark movie, not a cute and cuddly one where you walk away humming a tune. But if you enjoyed the books, then I think you will enjoy how they were adapted to film. I do recommend the 3D version, not so much because things come flying out at you, but because it adds depth to the lush scenery and we all agreed it was worth the extra money.

We just got back. We all loved it! The scenery was fantastic and I really loved the message. My four older kids went (my 6 year old stayed home). I'm glad I had her stay home, I think there were so parts that would have scared her.

I posted to Facebook that I was on the fence about seeing this, but I enjoyed it a whole lot more than I expected. I caught the Disney Digital 3D™ version. It was visually stunning.

The performances were all very good, and well, I was happy to hear Alan Rickman's voice even if I couldn't "see" him acting.

Went and saw it this afternoon. It was me, DW, DD9, DD12.

I need to echo another posters comments, this movie was NOT, and I repeat NOT, a typical creepy weird Tim Burton movie. He let the world just show off its stunning beauty and none of the characters were over the top. I even thought Johnny Depp controlled himself. He was actaully able to create a pretty strong plot.

Overall, me and my wife liked the move. My DD9 loved the movie and has talked about it quite a bit since. My DD12 didn't care for it much.... said it was boring in parts. Teens seem to have closed and narrowed minds, so I can see where teems might find it boring if they don't are only looking for action scenes.

Did anybody notice at the end that the name of the ship in the harbor is the "Wonder"?

There was finally an ad I saw that made me understand this. Kind of funny, because (although I was HIGHLY anticipating seeing the movie) I kept complaining that Alice looked so old! I would say "Alice is supposed to be a little girl!" I cooled off once I realized it's years later.

We LOVED it!

I took my dd & 3 of her friends for her 11th b-day. We saw the 3-D version. The live action/animation blend was excellent. The show was nearly sold out, lots of teens (boys) in the audience. No one wanted to leave at the end.

Well worth the $100 is spent on addmission & snacks.

We saw it yesterday as well and loved it. The 4 pm was sold out when we got there, so we went to the 5 pm. Had to "waste" some time in the mall, lol!
