I don't know about anybody else but I can't wait to go and see Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland". I hope it's weirder than any movie he has ever made. I know it looks really cool so far from the previews.

We are going to go see it in 3-D tomorrow. Anybody else?

We are going to try to see it tonight or tomorrow night. But it hasn't gotten very good reviews. I guess that's why there isn't much buzz.

It just looks annoying.

Thank you. That's exactly how I feel about it too. I think that the whole Depp/Burton combo is getting creepier and creepier. :duck:

Edited to add: The actual BOOK is pretty odd and creepy though, so it will likely be a closer adaptation to that than the Disney cartoon version was.

When Disney was trying to make Alice In Wonderland they had a very difficult time coming up with a connecting story, since so much of the original book was just a bunch of non-related adventures that Alice has in Wonderland. For the geniuses at Disney it was a tough movie to make, so I could see where Tim might have gotten in trouble trying to hold together a story line.

What I don't want is for it to just be a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake. I'm hoping this movie is really out there.

BTW, I really liked "A Christmas Carol", which ended up getting panned by many on this site, so I might not be a good person to ask about movies.

A group that I belong to is taking local foster kids to see it tomorrow. I found out yesterday. Not sure how well received it will be. The committee members that chose the movie are out of touch with kids and family entertainment. If nothing else, I get to use my ticket stub for movie reward points.

I plan to see it next weekend. I am a Depp fan and Alice is one of my favorites stories of all time, although quite strange, yes. So I am curious to see it. It sounds like he has mixed Alice and Through the Looking Glass and just jumbled it all up. But that is Burton for you. I am not a huge Burton fan or anything though.

My 9 year old is a huge huge huge Tim Burton fan. The Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas are two of her favorite movies. She was bouncing off the walls this morning that the movie is opening today. I'm not sure this is a good thing. :rotfl:

Last year they chose Dog Hotel, which is about orphans and foster kids. The chaperons sunk in their seats....

It was definitely different than what I expected, but I personally enjoyed it. My friend, not so much. He thought it took out the "whimsical" of the book...In any case, it's absolutely beautiful and and impressive to watch if nothing else.

I am excited to see it. All of my local papers gave it about a 2/4 stars. Trying not to let the reviews dampen my excitement, sometimes w/ childrens movies I think they expect too much. Will let you know what I think....

I saw it yesterday. First of all I was really excited about it before it came out so maybe I was expecting it too much. It wasn't bad, I liked the movie but not as much as I was expecting. I'll have to re-read the book (I really couldn't remember that much) to see if it is more like the novel. I must say it has nothing to do with the cartoon, which I love (and I know Disney had a hard time readapting in the screens this books). What I missed the most were the songs, I love the songs of the cartoon, they are so catchy!:lmao:

It just looks too creepy and out there for me - like an acid trip gone bad.

I saw it last night and enjoyed it. I thought Depp was awesome. On the other hand, I ahve never seen the original.

My nephew is seven and excited to see Alice. He loves Nightmare Before Christmas and is a Johnny Depp fan. Do you think he will like it? I have been on the fence about taking him. It looks creepy and more adult to me. From what I've seen, it just doesn't look like a movie that kids (under 12) will enjoy.

I saw it at the midnight release. My expectations were not that high, because I am just not a fan of Tim Burton. He tends to "creepify" my childhood favorites, such as Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. That being said, I actually loved Alice in Wonderland. The characters are all very vivid, and the level of weirdness is kept to a minimum. There is nothing in it that would make it inappropriate or scary for a child. There are a few monsters, but I don't think they are any scarier than Maleficent as the Dragon in Sleeping Beauty. The story keeps very close with details from the original Lewis Carroll stories from "Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland" and the sequel "Through the Looking Glass." I loved that it held to the true imagery that we all know as Alice in Wonderland, such as the playing cards and the chess pieces. My chief complaint is that Helena Bonham Carter plays the same role in everything she is in. And Alice is a bit more subdued than I think she ought to be. But Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter was incredible. He's such a versatile actor, I enjoy seeing him in any role. And whatever voice I was expecting from the caterpiller was blown away when I realized it was Alan Rickman. He was great! I would say that if you are on the fence about seeing the movie, go ahead. And if you have the option of seeing it in 3D, take it! Everything is better in 3D! :) Have fun!
