Where would these points go?

If I borrowed 24 pts to make a reservation and then I cancel that reservation, what happens to those pts?

Thanks in advance.
:D

The borrowed points will stay in the Use Year into which they were borrowed and cannot be banked. They would expire at the end of that Use Year.

Would they go into a holding account if I cancelled?

Would I only be able to make reservations within 60 days of a trip?

Thanks :D

Are there different rules is you change the ressie instead of cancelling it? Inside 30 days if you change do you get your points back or can you use them for the change, provided you stay within your use year?

Only if you cancelled at less than 31 days out. If you used the then schedule another reservation during the same use year, you could use the borrowed points including other DVC options, DCL, CC, DC, even an II deposit. If you cancel within 30 days and make another reservation within 60 days you could use the reservation points. If you cancel within 30 days but want to make another reservation outside 60 days, you couldn't with these even if the same use year. Points for reservations cancelled within 30 days go into a holding account. Those points cannot be banked or borrowed but can be transferred. They expire at the end of that use year.

When I talked to MS the other day she told me they would go into a holding account now. I am well outside of the 31 day mark.

Was she incorrect?

The Holding Account would only apply if the cancellation occurs within 30 days of arrival. 31 days or more ahead and the points are simply returned to the Use Year current for that reservation.

They could then be used to make a reservation for yourself or anyone else.

Enjoy!

Incorrect as posted. The only other caveat is it's 31 days from the start of the reservation, not the actual day itself. The other issue is that points used for non DVC options go into a special account and are called reservation points which cannot be used at DVC again. Give us specifics so we can be certain we're telling you what you need.

Here's the situation.

We had 3 nights booked at OKW. 2 of those nights became available at VWL so we made the switch.

We still have a reservation at OKW for the 1 night. We are hoping something at VWL comes through. If not, we can pay cash for the 1 night.

If I cancel the OKW 1 night reservation because I'm able to get the cash ressie-provided the waitlist doesn't come through-then she told me those pts would go into a holding account.

I am over 50 days out so I am assuming that she is incorrect.

None of this will matter if the waitlist comes through for that one night.

DH does not want to move over to OKW for one night.

floridafam, if I am reading this correctly, you have not yet canceled the reservation.
If that is the case, your points will not go into a holding account provided you cancel it at least 31 days prior to the trip. If you wait until the last minute (under 31 days) to see if your waitlist comes through, those points will end up in holding.

Does that make sense?

It makes sense to me.

The CM at MS told me if I was going to cancel the other day they would have gone into a holding account. I didn't think she was right.

Do you think we have a good chance at the waitlist for VWL coming through on the 22nd of October?

If it does come through, will they just link all 3 reservations into one?

Thanks.

She was incorrect or mispoke. My guess is she was trying to tell you they woul expire at the end of this use year. The question is when is the cutoff for making the switch? If you go ahead and make a cash reservation you will likely need to cancel more than 1 day out, sorry I don't know the CRO cancellation policy for cash reservations but was thinking it was longer than 1 day.

If I were you I'd make a cash reservation now for the one night then it your wait list comes through, cancel the cash reservation. I'd likely cancel the OKW once you have the cash because it sounds like you'd rather pay cash than change resorts anyway. The other option is to try for OKW or another resort for the entire time. Good luck.

Thanks.

We did have OKW for 3 nights before our 4 nt VWL stay but we really want to stay at VWL.

I will probably do exactly what Dean mentioned.

Make the cash ressie, cancel OKW and hope the waitlist comes through. The cancellation policy for the cash ressie would be 5 days.

Do you think we will be able to stay in the same villa if we have a 1br booked before and after our cash stay?

Will it be a lot of hassle to do a points/cash/points stay?

One more thing.

For the cash night, would you book a villa or maybe go with WL Concierge? We stayed there last year and liked it.

Personally I'd book the same type unit I have for the other nights hoping not to move. Good luck, I hope it works out.
