Where would I look?

DFW Texas people........We have a graduation in Dallas in January...where can I find information on good places to stay and eat?? I'm also trying to find out if there are any conventions or sports activities that may make it impossible to find accomodations and reservations... The graduation is at the Sheraton on Olive street - smack in the middle of the city. The prices at the Sheration seem a bit high...(at least to me)....can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks - they're coming in from NY. barb

I've used Trip Advisor to get an idea of what is to be had in cities we were visiting.

I checked prices for the Sheraton at Market Hall...it's showing $79 per night. It's almost 4 miles away from downtown, which isn't too bad. You're not going to do much better than that for downtown. I'd make ressies as soon as possible.

I saw that too...but then read some reviews...and got a little frightened...
I was thinking that would be a good choice too....and you're right about making the reservations as soon as possible...
I do not like being responsible for other people's plans....I don't want it to come back and bite me!!

$79/night for a Sheraton is a pretty good deal, especially that close to downtown. I assume you'll be renting a car. It's impossible to get around Dallas without one! Please be aware that we have a number of toll roads in the area that do NOT have cash toll booths! Ask the car rental company about getting a TollTag or prepaying toll fees. There have been numerous local news reports about visitors getting hit with HUGE fees by both the rental car company and the Tollway authorities because they didn't know how to handle the no-cash tolls.

With respect to restaurants, let me know what sort of food you're looking for and I can make some suggestions. There are a lot of good places to eat in Dallas. www.guidelive.com is the Dallas Morning News entertainment guide that has restaurant reviews, if you want to check that out.

Maudies Cafe is a nice little place to eat in Dallas.
Everything is homemade.
