Every generation seems to have it's shocking moment (or as Oliver Stone calls it "defining moment" )My mom still remembers exactly where she was when Kennedy was shot. Sitting in her 4th grade classroom when the nun came in crying and told all of the kids that class was being dismissed because the president had been shot. My grandfather always told me his recollection of where he was on December 7th 1941 (Pearl harbor)
So it got me thinking with the 5 year anniversary fast approaching.. where were you on September 11th 2001.
I remember it like it was yesterday, it was my second week of sophomore year in college. My DH (then DBF) was sleeping as he had just got home from working the night shift washing dishes at a resturaunt (oh how far we have come
) I was downstairs at the computer writing a paper for Nursing 101 and my DD was propped in front of the TV eating cereal and watching playhouse Disney (she was 2 at the time, and yes I know shame on me for using the TV as a babysitter but Hey! I needed to get that License!!
) In any case, the phone suddenly rang and my mom was on the other line calling from work. The conversation went something like this:
Mom:"Hey.... are you watching the news"
ME:"Nope, I am writing a paper that's due tonight"
Mom:"Well a plane just hit the WTC"
So I switched the channel, much to my daughters dismay and just as I did I saw a plane hit the building
Me:"Oh I see mom, they are replaying it"
Mom:"Oh my God! no there not, that was another plane"
and sure enough as I looked closer and saw the smoke billowing out of both buildings I realized that she was right.....
So where were you?
