Hi all. Here are some quick reviews of our meals during our recent trip. Party included me (32), DH (36) and my parents (52 and 57). I used the DDE card for the first time and saved well over $200. Also enjoyed the free valet parking.
Sunday
Lunch Good's Food to Go at OKW Resort: Oustanding chicken salad on a croissant. A great meal to start the trip and one of our favorite sandwiches.
Dinner Le Cellier: Everyone really enjoyed this. We all had the filet, which was excellent with a sweet sort of barbecue glaze. DH and I had the cheese soup, while Dad had the beef and barley soup. Both were delicious. We all split an apple-cranberry cobbler for dessert -- the cranberries were huge! From start to finish, the best meal of the trip.
Monday
Breakfast Kona Cafe: I had Tonga Toast -- a little sweeter than I remembered. Probably wouldn't order it again. The men ordered the breakfast sampler, which was huge, and Mom got a 2-egg breakfast, which actually seemed to have more food than the sampler. All very good.
Dinner Beaches and Cream: Yummy, as usual. Always one of our favorite places. The hot dog with chili was particularly good, and DH and I managed to finish a banana split. Yum!
Tuesday
Lunch Pizzafari at the AK: Pizza wasn't great. DH got the chicken parmesan sandwich, which was much better than the pizza.
Dinner Rainforest Cafe at AK: Usually one of our favorites, but we were disappointed this time. The food just seemed average. I got the Rasta Pasta, which was the best of the entrees. DH got a turkey sandwich of some sort, Mom got a filet, and Dad got stir-fry. Mom's filet was nowhere as good as the one at Le Cellier. We had a Bananas Foster for dessert. That was great! Since we couldn't use DDE here, I used my DVC discount and still saved 10%.
Wednesday
Dinner California Grill: Got a window table at 6 p.m. with a bird's-eye view of Wishes at 7 p.m. They did dim the lights (sort of) and softly played the music. The view was terrific. I actually enjoyed watching the sun set over the Grand Floridian more than I enjoyed the fireworks. As far as the food, we split a four-cheese flat bread, which we loved. Mom and DH both ordered the hearts of romaine salad. She loved it; he didn't care for it. We all four had the filet for dinner. Mine was a little overcooked, so I thought the one at Le Cellier was better. Rest of the party liked this one better. The filet came with scalloped potatoes, which were pretty good but a little plain. For dessert, we split a warm chocolate souffle of some sort and a lemon cake dessert. Both were good but not mind-blowing. The souffle at Palo on the cruise is better.
Thursday
Dinner The Brown Derby: Did this as part of the Fantasmic Package. A great deal with the 20% DDE discount. For appetizers, Dad got the crab cake, Mom and DH split the Cobb salad, and I got the Mulligatawny? soup. Dad loved the crab cake, and I really liked the soup. Mom didn't care for the salad, but DH liked it. We all got filet for dinner (again!), which was really good. For dessert, I had a praline cheesecake, and Dad had a chocolate mousse dessert. DH and Mom both got the grapefruit cake. In my opinion, the praline cheesecake was the best by far! All in all, a very enjoyable meal -- one of our favorites.
Friday
Breakfast Donald's Breakfastosaurus: Always a favorite. I love the breakfast pizza, and the staff is a lot of fun. To my surprise, the place was half empty. I've never been there before when it wasn't full. We were there around 9 a.m.
Dinner Alfredo di Roma: A staple for me. I love the fettucini alfredo. Mom and I ate here. DH and Dad got counter service in Japan. We were all happy.
Saturday
Lunch -- Olivia's at OKW Resort: Mom had the cheeseburger. Dad had the club sandwich. DH and I both ordered the buttermilk fried chicken. This is one of our favorite dishes at Disney, so we saved it for last. It was fantastic as always. Dad had key lime pie, and DH had mesmerizing mango pie. Both were delicious.
All in all, we enjoyed pretty much everywhere we ate. The DDE definitely enabled us to eat at places we might not have otherwise.
We can't wait to go back!
