Where was Mickey at Daytona?

Wasn't Mickey Mouse supposed to be part of Daytona 500? Just saw George Bush - Disney was nowhere to be found? What happened?

i don't know what happened! it was most likly a political move or whatever deal disney had with nascar fell through!

Mickey and Minnie had their own cars....each was painted (or supposed to be) on the 2 cars that led the pace car around the track just prior to the start of the race.

Unfortunately, there wasn't any national press about it or showing of the cars up close though...I think the President's little flyover and visit overshadowed the whole 75 years of racing at Daytona and 75 years of Mickey.....

The Daytona 500 website might have something more on the Mickey and Minnie cars.....

I don't suppose that NBC might have had anything to do with that - I thought that Mickey was supposed to be the Grand Marshall as well. Very disappointing

That's kind of what I thought as I was sitting the Jaycees Clubhouse watching the race. There I sat with my Mickey Mouse Daytona 500 T-shirt watching the race and no sign of Mickey or Minnie at the race.

I too wonder if this was another NBC consipracy. Maybe they got cut when they put in the 7 second delayed broadcast. Maybe they thought that Minnie might flash someone so they decided not to show them.

With all of the hoopla that was surrounding Disney being a sponsor you would have thought that Mickey and Minnie would have did the gentlemen start your engines. Then maybe the race would have started on time.

I do find it interesting that a president like Bush likes NASCAR but put him in a suite and keep him off of the track..... The whole pomp and curcimstance took way too long.

Anyone else have any other thoughts?

I think both Nascar and NBC (for obvious reasons) screwed this all up. Hopefully they will make it up to all us mouse fans and try again at another race. The twin 75's need to be seen!

I just returned from WDW and the Daytona 500. Mickey's car was parked at the entrance, right by a merchandise tent selling Mickey/Daytona hats, shirts, etc. I sat in the stands from 10:00 a.m. until the end of the race--no sign of any Mickey car--nothing Disney was on the track at any time, and there was no mention of Disney. I was very disappointed!
