Hi Everyone... We haven't been to Universal in about 3 years.... It will be me, my Dh and DD age 8... DD has aspergers, adhd,ocd....... We need a hotel that is relatively inexpensive, as this year has been rough for us. Our little town up in the mountains was hit by a major flood and we lost alot... We're back up on our feet again, and thanks to the great deal Univeral has for the 7 days... we will be going President's week. Driving down from NY... So if anyone has any hints on the drive... or what hotel to stay at.. Please feel free to let me know!

Thanks a million!

Check out the Universal resorts board. There are lots of posts that might help you to make a decision.

Thankyou Damo for the quick reply. I'm still lost here, lol.. when I went to the discussions on the hotels, it all seemed to be only universal property. I really don't have that kind of money to spend..unfortunately... I think I need to stay off property, but don't know what is close enough and cheap enough at this point.. We're used to the "value Resorts" at Disney so we don't need anything big.. just clean and safe....:yay:

If you go up to the Orlando Hotels and attractions section of the board, someone can probably guide you to a nice off-site hotel at a reasonable price. I got a great deal at Clarion Universal on Hotwire a couple of years ago by reading that board.

There are some nice close by resorts but we don't tend to hear about them much on the Universal boards. Dixie Luvr is right about the Orlando Hotels section, they have some great advice over there!

Here's my page of hotels across the street.

BestWestern is a good choice, they have a free breakfast. There are others you can pick from. Use maps.yahoo.com to see how close to the park they are. The address of the HRH is 5800 Universal BLVD Orlando FL 32819. That's located literally next to USF. Now type in the address of the hotel you want to stay at and click on get directions.

You can pick just about any hotel chain you can think of, and it's most likely located near the parks. Since you are driving down, you can stay anywhere 10 minutes away, and park at the TGIFridays if you want to save the parking fee.

I simply cannot thank all of you for the help you are giving!

Damo.. thankyou for guiding me to the universal boards...

Dixie luvr... thankyou for letting me know about the Clarion... is hotwire really good? I think I used them about 7 years ago...but wasn't thrilled with the outcome of the hotel. For the life of me I can't remember what hotel I received, I just remember I was glad I was going to be there only one nite!

Sha lyn I love trip advisor (it helped me when we went to California last year!...) Riande Continental Plaza.. free internet access huh? that's great.. just loving all this info.. gonna go check it out!

AND last but not least.. robvia...Wow! thanks for the links!

I just love these boards so very helpful, I just hope this vacation goes well, I just need a real good start to this year for my daughter! THANKYOU ALL SO MUCH! :yay:

Hi Robin09! I have an eight year old son with severe autism and we made our first trip to US/IOA this past December. We stayed at Royal Pacific Resort and it did not cost any more than a Disney moderate and was the best resort we have ever stayed at! The front of the line access was a lifesaver for our son! It was a beautiful, peaceful, restful place and everyone there treated my son incredibly! The parks themself were great too! My son does not care for Disney-it it too loud with way too much noise going on at once. The stage shows, fireworks etc have just gotten louder and more obnoxious over the years - my husband refuses to go back. We found Universal to be incredibly relaxing yet LOTS of fun! Hope you have a great trip- you will love it!
