I'm trying to decide where to have a family of 4 adults (Dad, Mom, DB (22), and DD (me, 19) stay for late Dec. early Jan.:goodvibes
I would love to hear everyones opinions about which would be best to stay at and why. The choices so far are the GF, Poly, ALK, and WL. TIA:thumbsup2

I have never stayed at any of these resorts, but if I got the chance and had the $, I would go for the Poly. The resort looks awesome and it's a monorail resort! You'll have fun no matter where you are. Have fun deciding!!!

Hi;
My vote was for the AKL... I think its a great resort for any age but my husband and I loved it so much when we were there. There are romantic spots for you and your bf to chill (as well as mom and dad); the food was great and the decor was unbelievable.
We have never stayed at the Poly (hopefully sooner or later) or the WL but friends of ours loves both because of the boat convienience to the MK.
I am also a huge fan of POR (even though thats not in your list); its a moderate w/ alot of great perks... it has a boat to DTD; the horse carriage rides are wonderful; the mansion style rooms are beautiful, the grounds are second to none, and the piano man in the lounge is great entertainment! :)

I have stayed at AKL and GF - both are lovely. Why dont you consider a split stay like I did?

I voted for the Polynesian as it has a day bed and I assume that you don't want to share a bed with your brother. IIRC, the bed is smaller but you should be able to fit on it if you're not too tall. The GF also has a daybed, but I'm not sure if that's in your parent's budget. The WL and AKL have bunk beds which are also OK for smaller adults. I'm not sure if your brother would fit, though.

Whatever you decide, you should do it soon if you're planning to by at WDW for New Year's Eve. I would also suggest that you consider booking two reservations, one before NYE at the exorbitant Holiday rate and then another after NYE during the much cheaper Value season.

I could be wrong, but I thought that DB was "dear brother".

wow, those are great choices..... honestly, you can't go wrong with any of those hotels. I've stayed at WL and Poly and loved them both. GF is the priciest of all the disney hotels but its beautiful. And I've heard great things about AKL, the only downside of that hotel (to me) is that it is farther away from the parks. I enjoy how the GF Poly and WL are all soooo close to MK.

They are all very nice, and it depends on what you are looking for in your resort...are you park commandos, or looking to spend some time at the resort? IS budget a factor at all? Is transportation mode a big deal for you - boat/bus/monorail?

POly and GF are the most expensive. Poly probably has the best transportation of all the resorts - but it also lacks a hot tub.

AKL and maybe WL are probably my favorite resorts for hainging out. If you are into slightly unusual dining options then AKL is awesome - if you are strictly an American-type food person then maybe you'd prefer the dining at WL. the pool and hot tubs at AKL are some fo my favorites. WL has a cool one, but it's a little small. BOth are good in cooler weatther as the pool.

We are park commandos for sure! Well at least i am :rotfl: This is our first trip back to WDW in 7 years (we are usually DLR people), so we are kind of going all out for this one. Transportation is huge as we want the easiest to the parks to maximize time there;) I doubt we will go back to the hotel in the middle of the day, but its a possibility. Thank you everyone for your opinions and keep them coming please!!!

The Polynesian does have the best transportation of the lot. You can monorail or boat to the MK and you can walk to the TTC and take the monorail to Epcot.

However, I don't think that transportation is really that important in the grand scheme of things. At most, you're talking about 10-15 minutes each way. Big whoop. You should find a place where you are comfortable.

If these are your only choices, then go with the Poly; however, the Boardwalk and DTD are the adult corners of the world, so I'd go with either the YC/BC or SSR.

I would choose GF or WL since you are going over holiday time. They are both beautiful at Christmas.

Could I also suggest you consider BC? BC is very convenient to EPCOT & MGM (a 5min walk to Worldshow case or a short boatride to either EPCOT or MGM). The pool at BC is the best on property SAB. BC shares a bus with YC and BCV so the buses are really convenient. We love taking a short walk from the BC and getting a snack from the World showcase at night from all the different countries.

Think about which park you will spend the most time at and pick the resort nearest that park and with the best transportation to that park. I'd also look into a DVC resort. They are very unique and you can rent points from a member. Its great having a kitchen (great for saving your EPCOT snacks for a midnight raid) and washer/dryer right in your villa(allows you to pack light). I also really love the huge jacuzzi tubs after a long day at the parks. There is a rent board here on the DVC forums. Check it out. And although I own DVC I do not rent ~ I need all my points for myself.

Whatever you decide ENJOY!!

I have stayed at WL and while I loved it, I would love to stay at Poly. OHana's Kona Cafe, the Monorail, Wishes enjoyed from Poly beach, I could go on. Maybe soon.......:goodvibes

AKL slightly over the Poly. I love Boma, the atmosphere, but mostly the savannah at AKL

i see that most people have said the poly, is there any specific reason?
also (sorry if this is OT a bit) , if we split our stay between 2 hotels does anyone know how the tickets would work if we had a package, since they are usually attached to your hotel res?
