where to refuel

We just purchased an 18 foot travel trailer. We pulled a pop up before and fueling was not problem. Just about any gas station was easy in, easy out. Now with more length, . . . where do you refuel while pulling a trailer. Thanks for you help.

Most any truck stop will give you plenty of room. Your right about some regular gas stations not having enough room to maneuver. You just have to plan ahead a little so you can refuel at them. We prefer Flying J's. We have a Rewards Card that gets us $.01 off per gallon when you use it, besides usually have good fuel prices. with a 18ft. trailer you should not have any problem fueling most places are not a problem with that size trailer. have fun.

I pull a 21 footer and have no problems. Most gas stops off the interstate are big enough, so you don't need to go to a truck stop for gas.

The Hess stations on Disney property have been very good lately to the point where they have even been lower than FlyingJ for regular gas.

I thought I read that the Hess station at the Car Care Center (near MK and FW) was closed for remodeling. Supposedly the buildings have been torn down for a complete redo. This was one of the cheapest places to get gas especially diesel.

Glad I could help!

We find the Truck Stops more convenient because they are easy in and out. You don't usually have to try to get turned around to get back in the interstate. Sometimes we park and go in and eat and sometimes we fix our meals in our camper in their parking lot. Almost everything you need is right there.

Downtown Disney Hess was 2.45 a gallon on Sunday...Prices were cheaper elsewhere??? I don't get it it was cheaper at the Hess in July!

There are 3 Hess stations at WDW. The CCC Hess is closed but the other 2 are open. The other is at the corner of E. Buena Vista Dr. and EPCOT Resort Blvd.

Strange that it was that high on Sunday .

The Car Care Center was being remodeled when we were down there last week. We went to the Hess by MGM - but it does not have a Diesel pump. Would you tell me where the other one is so when we go next time we can find it??

We paid close to $3.00 for diesel off-site. We paid $2.36 coming back 9/25 in Georgia if that helps anyone travelling down.

I hope they are done with the remodel before December. The CCC Hess station is way too convenient for a quick fill up on the way out of WDW. I can just make it to the first Flying j in GA from there on the wimpy little fuel tank in my Chevy Diesel.

I forgot the exact time table for the renovation at the CCC, but I don't think they will be finished by December considering they have demo'ed the building to the ground. I think spring was the time table, maybe May?

It is across the street from DTD between Hotel Plaza BLVD (?) and the main casting office (the big cruise ship looking building). IIRC, it is next to the entrance to the building that looks like a Jeanie's bottle.

Yeah, I can't remember if the Hess at DTD has diesel and if it does, it would be hard to get in and out of with a TT in tow. I think an earlier poster said the Hess at BWV doesn't.

I agree with using the truckstops Plenty of room for getting in and out. Pilots tend to be on the small side but more than enough room for your rv. I perfer the Flying J's, Petro and TA's. Don't push it and look for fuel way before you need it. On my last trip I filled up before arriving in Orlando at the Turnpike service area. (a few cents more a gallon but plenty of space) We left the truck parked while at the campground and used Disney transportation. This left us with almost a full tank for our return trip. Have a safe trip.

Thanks again for all your help. Because of your help I have mapped out most of the Flying J's and Pilot stations between home and Ft Wilderness.
I have no clue what kind of gas mileage I will get. With our pop up which weighed about 1,500 I got 17 mpg the new camper weighs 2,700 so I know I will take a mpg hit. Thanks again. Leaving in two weeks.

Tom, you didn't actually say if you have a diesel or gas engine. I have an '05 F-250 with Power Stroke Diesel and pull an 8,000 lbs. Airstream. I have plenty of power to set the cruise control at the posted speed limit and I get a consistent 12.8 in mountains on the interstates. I have traveled mostly in TN, KY,OH so far and only one trip to FL so I haven't had much experience on the flats, but IIRC, I got 13.1 on that trip. If you have a diesel, your mileage might not vary that much from your 17. If you have a gasoline engine, you will probably drop to around 10-11 or maybe even less. Gasoline engines usually drop a lot when they take on a heavier load.

If you find that you have to stop for gasoline more often and can't make it to the truck stops, you'd be surprised where you can get to with a travel trailer. This past week end I got into a standard gas station island to an interior pump with my 30 footer in tow. I did, howerver, significantly limit manuverability around the rest of the islands, but I didn't have any of them blocked. I just swung wide getting to the pumps and getting away from them.

bigd, I just found out that the plan is to be re-opened by Thanksgiving. But, you know about the best laid plans...so you might want to have a back up plan of your own just in case they run behind schedule. It makes sense to have it open by Thanksgiving week since that is one of the busiest weeks of the year.
