We are going to POP Sep 2008 and our dd will be 28mth old. At this point, she still sleeps in her crib no problem, but who knows if we will be in a toddler bed by then. I have some concerns about our trip. I dont know if she will sleep in a pack n play...I mean those mattresses are less than an inch thick. I did see that I could rent a regular crib or even a toddler bed from a local baby rental place. Would there be enough room in POP for one of these? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

It took us a long time to get a good nighttime routine with her and I dont want to screw it up on vacation...ie I do not want her to sleep in one of the beds with me and then want to sleep in my bed when we get home KWIM. Any advise is greatly appreciated...I am starting to obsess about this.

I will also post this on the Family board, but also wanted opinions about POP specifically.

POP will also give you 2 nice bedrails(not metal). You should request them on your reservation. Could you put her in a bed with those?
The room is small. A pack and play just fits between the beds, so a toddler bed would be tight.

Not sure of who else will be in the room, but after reading your concerns, I would use the bed rails and let her sleep in the bed on her own.

It will be my husband, myself and DD. My concern will be if she is still in the crib at home and we use the bed at disney...I dont want to break her of the crib at home. (this happened to my friends, they let dd sleep with mommy and then she wanted to sleep with mommy at home, took about two weeks to get her back to normal.) But if she wont sleep in the pnp than we will have to try the bedrails. BTW she is a mover and a shaker when she sleeps.

If she is a shaker and a mover at 28 months, I think the PnP will not work for her. I think she will be too big.
Getting 2 bedrails and sleeping in the second bed alone, is very different than sleeping in the same bed as mommy!. If she comes home and wants to be in her own big bed, maybe it is the right time to transition. As you said, she may have made that transition even before you go.
Good Luck and don't obsess. It will work out for the best.

We had a similar dilemma at Christmas while visiting family. My son is 28 months and wouldn't fit into his pack and play crib. So we bought a CARS blow up bed(they come in dora, etc as well). It was $25.00 or so (walmart) and was small enough to bring with us in our luggage :goodvibes . It has a CARS sleeping bag attached to it so was a huge novelty for him. We were concerned because this was the first time he would be sleeping in it, but it was a huge hit :thumbsup2 ! We put it against a wall and then used pillows on the otherside so he had the feeling of his crib. It is only a few inches high so no risk of falling and injuring himself.

We bought a cheap foam mattress toppers from Target (between $10-$15). We laid them (2 kids) out at night with sheets and blankets on it. One at the foot of the beds and one near the door; they fit fine. That way the kids had their own little beds. In the morning, we just rolled them up, bedding and all, and put them in the closet rolled. At night, we rolled them out again and were ready to go.

When we got home, we used them on their twin beds. It worked great and we only wasted about $25 for both.

We did have to cart the toppers and the blankets there, though. We drove. It probably wouldn't work if you were flying.

Before we went last trip, I heard rave reviews of the Ready Bed. We bought a Ready Bed for our last trip with DD22 months. She loved the idea of the Ready bed, carried the box around, talked about her new Pooh bed, played on the bed when we set it up at our resort. But when it came time to sleep in the bed? Not a chance - she would not sleep in the Ready bed no matter what I tried. So she wound up sleeping with me. However, she had no problem transitioning back to her own bed when we got home.

Not to discourage you, I read here about lots of people who's kids love sleeping on the Ready Beds at Disney and it is an option to consider. It is a blow up mattress, comes with a battery powered pump. Doesn't take up much floor space, and you can stand it up and lean it on a wall to get it out of the way during the day. Sounds great, if it would work for your child!

Thank you so much for all of your replies. Our flight down to WDW is early morning. SO we are going to try the pack n play for her nap and see how she does. If she does ok, then we will just hope for the best that night. If she will not nap in the pack n play, then we will head out to the nearest walmart and go for the ready bed. If that is the route we go, I think we will be fine, as they nap on mats at daycare and then she has her own special bed for when she visits Grandma's house. And then worst case scenerio we will put her in bed if we have to.
I have to remember not to obsess about all these little details.
Thanks
Steph

DD was 35 months on our last family vacation. She was in a big girl bed at home but she slept in a pack-n-play at Disney. She thought it was so fun that she had her own bed (the rest of us had to share) and it was a crib! After a day touring the parks, she was so tired, she would have slept anywhere. lol
