Hi Again!

We are staying at POR, and I was wondering what past brides have done with their gowns in the room. It is too long to hang in the 'closet', and I need to take it out of the dress bag and hang it immediately in hopes of preventing wrinkles. Where did you all hang your dresses so that the train did not drag the floor or get dirty? Thanks!

My alterations lady said to hang it somewhere high in the room, like on a door or something. I didn't want DH to see it, though, so I actually put it in the closet, unzipped the bag, and carefully took the skirt out and fluffed it. I didn't have much of a train, though, and my dress was 2-piece, so it wasn't super long. If you're not trying to hide it, I would suggest hanging it on a doorframe, or maybe the bell captain can spare you something higher...

good luck!

You could try a door frame or perhaps hanging it on the curtain rod near the windows (but you wouldn't want it near the air conditioner, so that might not work).

The only place i found in my room that was high enoguh to hang my dress was the sprinkler...perhaps i shouldn't have since it certainly wasn't made to hang things from but...that's what i did. ;)

I have seen this coat hooks which do not need to be nailed to the wall...they stick on or something (anyone know what I mean?) so these might work. you could get one or two stick them up high an hang the dress. I guess it depends how heavy the dress is. I guess you could try it at home first. They are inexpensive....just a thought?

One idea for keeping it clean and from being seen by future DH is to wrap it in sheets. This was recommended by David's bridal and it worked so well! It kept dust off and allowed DH to still go in that room at my parents' house and it was still out of the bag keeping from being wrinkled. I used two fitted twin sheets (white) and they hooked over the hanger and held the bottom of the dress.

Do you have any guests coming? You could always use one of the hooks Pixie08 suggested, but hang it in a trusted friend or family member's room so DH doesn't see it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I like the idea of wrapping sheets around it, and spreading it out. If I wrapped it in sheets, hanging it on a curtain might work. Also, the sheets would keep Bruce from seeing it. (We are the only ones going, so no other room to put it in!) I'm not really sure about the hooks you're describing...just can't picture them for some reason...do you mean the hooks that you put over a door? Thanks again!

I think the sticky hooks are a REALLY great idea. They are made by 3M, you can buy them at target or wal-mart. They are in the "home improvement" areas of the store, you'll want to hang the hook for awhile before putting your dress on it. I had my dorm room covered with these, one was actually heavy enough to hold my hanging laundry hamper, I'm sure you'll be able to find a sturdy one for your dress. The backs of hooks come off really easily,a nd they don't leave a mark.

here's a link to their website:

OH!!! THOSE hooks! Hee Hee :rolleyes1 I feel kind of silly now because I've seen those before. They are a great idea! I think I'll do that! Thanks again everyone.

That is where DH and I stayed leading up to our wedding. I opened the armoire and hung my dress from the door with a sheet under it and then used a second as a curtain to hide it. After it is was steamed I just kept DH out (he and his best man were in a different room), but that was the night before the wedding so no big deal.

I think I will get the hooks just in case I need them. If I can find a place to hang it without than great! I want it out of the bag so that my lace doesn't get squashed. I'm going to wrap it loosely in sheets, so that it can spread out. Thanks for the suggestions!

Over here in the Uk a lot of brides hang a duvet cover over it (the poppers do up at the top of the dress) no danger of it faling off either.

That is a good idea! Never thought of it. Thanks!

Whatever you do, DON'T hang it from the sprinkler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Irene from Disney Cosmo told me a story about a girl who did this a few years back at the Grand Floridian and when she took the dress down, not only did the sprinkler head pop out of the wall, but part of the actual wall came down too and it caused MAJOR flooding, in addition to ruining her dress!! When the sprinkler head popped off, it uncorked the water pipe and 10 year old sooty water was pouring uncontrollably into the hotel room (and all over the wedding gown). Irene saved the day though--she somehow managed to get Carolyn Allen's to bring in new wedding dresses and she also got other Disney people to come in and alter the new wedding dress on the fly...all of this happening RIGHT before the wedding. Irene has LOTS of good stories :teeth:

(I personally hung my dress from the ceiling fan, which was pretty darn sturdy)

Oh my! i knew that was a bad idea when i did it...I guess I was lucky!

I hung mine on the armoire door, and then draped it lengthwise over the ironing board. That worked really well. It was a very long catherdral length train and this was it was off the floor and not getting wrinkled stuck in a bag. DH did see it, but then again, he helped me pick it out. :bride:
