We are arriving at OKW 2 weeks from today. We don't usually rent a car but got a very good deal so we went with it. Where is the closest (not Goodings) grocery store and where can I get directions. I will be shopping while dh undoubtedly will be watching football playoffs! TIA

We use the Publix on So International Drive, take me about 5-10 min drive from BCV, should only be a couple extra minutes from OKW.
Go right on Buena Vista Drive, left on Victory Way, left on Osceola Pkwy, then right on so. International Drive (at the light at Gaylord Palms), Publix is about 1/2 mi on left, just after overpass.

We also shop at Publix, but we go to the one near the Premium Outlet Mall and Dixie Stampede. I think it's a bit closer than the other one.

Regency Village Shopping Center (Store #00812)
8145 Vineland Ave
Orlando, FL 32821-6847

Approximate Driving Distance: 6.4 Miles
Approximate Driving Time: 15 Minutes

Time Miles Directions
0:00 0 Depart 1510 North Cove Road on Peninsular Rd (N)
0:00 0.2 Turn right (NE) onto Disney Vacation Club Way
0:02 1 Turn right (S) onto E Buena Vista Dr
0:04 1.9 Turn left (N) onto Hotel Plaza Blvd
0:06 2.7 Turn right (S) onto SR-535 [S Apopka Vineland Rd]
0:08 3.2 Turn left (E) onto Vineland Ave
Follow Vineland Ave. around the curve past Panera Bread, the Outlet Mall and Dixie Stampede. You'll see Publix on the left right past Dixie Stampede and the McDonald's.

This is the one we go to as well. Turn right out of OKW then right again just past the entrance to SSR. Left turn at the light (that's Hotel Plaza Drive), turn right onto SR535 (you'll see the McD on the left corner across the street from the intersection). At this light there are two right turn lanes and maybe two left turn lanes with one that goes straight. Drive under I-4 and make a left turn at the light (that's Vineland).

Do not go in the evening. The Outlet mall area traffic is horrid. The traffic getting to the Crossroads (McD, Pizza Uno, Goodings, etc) is also bad at night. If you can go in the morning or early afternoon you will have a lot less traffic.

By the way, it looks like you are arriving on marathon weekend. If you drive to AK, Epcot or DHS, you'll need to take a left turn at Bonnet Creek Parkway, the turn right on Buena Vista Dr.

We did our grocery shopping at the Winn Dixie store on S Apopka Vineland Road... Driving from OKW, hang a left at the Crossroads and it's on your right about 1/4 of a mile.

There's also a Papa John's pizza place in the same plaza that came in handy on our most recent trip. :)

We usally go to the Wlamart Super Centre on Oscola (Sp?). Also there is a Super Target on the way to WDW right off the toll highway.

I'd second this recommendation. We've found the selection and prices to be very good.

fyi, you can get step-by-step (turn-by-turn? ;) ) directions to many places (publix, winn dixie, walmart, outlets, etc) at the resort front desk or concierge.
:)

We usually shop at Publix, but actually we are considering trying out one of the grocery shopping services for our next trip. I always feel compelled to head out for the groceries right away, and it seems that I never get a feeling of being on vacation till the next day. I am thinking at least give it a try and see how it goes.

I have tried many of the local grocery stores. Goodings is just a rip off. As you come from DowntownDisney towards The Crossroads Plaza, take a left and Winn Dixie will be on your right. If you take the time to fill out the shopping card info you can take advantage of the sale prices also.

I will admit I have not thought to try the delivery services. That might be what I do next time.

We always go to Winn Dixie. We have found them to have the best prices. We usually rent a car for the day and go shopping for our room, or we take a cab.

I wouldn't call Goodings a rip off, I'd call them more expensive than most. They do have the advantage of being the closest. Plus they have some pretty good take out and heat up food. Or just take out and eat. I've found some pretty good looking gourmet-style food there.

But in the past years, the store has suffered and is not looking as good as it used to. We ordered a full Christmas dinner from Goodings once; picked it up the day before and heated it on Christmas day. And it was very good and not out of line with other prepared Christmas meals that could be picked up ahead of time.

It does have the reputation of being the most expensive.
