Where to get injections?

We are going to be staying at BWV and offsite for 4 weeks and need to find a clinic where we can have someone give intramuscular injections. We are Canadians and are fine with paying someone to do it, but we are just not sure where to go. We will be bringing our meds with us. We are looking for a place that is quick and convenient! Thanks.

Can your physician/nurse instruct you how to do it? Convenience wise was all I was thinking.

I would see if you could find out how to do it yourself. From a liability standpoint, I'm not sure if a clinic will inject you with something they didn't provide.

I agree with the PP about the liability issue.

If your doctor's office has an RN on staff, they should be able to quickly teach you how to do it. If they don't they should be able to refer you to a community health nurse or hospital outpatient clinic where you could be taught.

I have to give myself weekly injections. Although I was a nurse for almost 35 years, and didn't need instructions, I was still offered the help. It is not a difficult procedure.

You will need to speak with your pharmacist about purchase, safe transport, and disposal of syringes and alcohol swabs. If you are flying, you will need a letter from your doctor regarding the medication and syringes in case TSA asks, since you will have them in your carryon luggage.

Hi,
I have everything from my physician, but was just looking for a clinic. I have given myself injections before while I had gestational diabetes, and I much prefer someone else to do the poking! I was hoping that Orlando would have some quick clinics that I could pop into.

I know that when my mum was receiving injections and we traveled to Florida (though not Orlando), she found a nurse who came to our condo to do the injections. There was no liability issue (we brought the drugs from home). Sorry, I don't remember the name of the company (if I ever knew it - I was a kid) and it was about 14 years ago; however, if you cannot find a clinic, that is another possible option.

Oh, and we also came from Canada (with all the drugs and syringes).

Is anyone else traveling with you? They can do it if you just can't.

I'd do a search for walk-in clinics near Disney World and then email some of them or call them to see, at least they could advise you. You may have luck with a home health nurse as well. Insulin isn't bad, but if you are having intramuscular injections, that's different. I couldn't do my HCG shots (when trying to have DD)...DH had to, he was actually pretty good at it!

I am an RN and agree with that.

it is worth calling, but you need to be aware that home health nurses or clinic nurse are not just allowed to give a shot - they have to be working under direction of a doctor who has ordered the medication and that the route it is being given is by injection.
The doctor ordering it would need to be licensed in Florida or the nurse can't legally carry out the order.
You could check with your doctor to see if there is a doctor or clinic they know in Orlando where your care could be temporarily transferred while you are there so you have a 'responsible doctor' in Florida.

So, I agree with the other posters who suggested learning how to do it yourself. If you would rather not poke yourself, perhaps another member of your party can be taught how to do it.

I know you'd rather not poke yourself but if this is something you are going to have to do long term you are better off getting over it. Do I like taking multiple injections daily. No way. Do I do it anyway. Yes. Being able to do them myself gives me more freedom to do what I want on my schedule and not depend on others for that.
