I've read a few posts about people bringing white noise machines. Where do you get them? I'd love to find one that's as small as possible and if there are any that make rain noise, that would be wonderful. My DS sleeps through the night when it rains and I want one for in his room everynight and to travel with us!

you can find these relatively cheap ( less than $20) at kmart or walmart. we have 2 one for home and a small one that has a clock and folds closed for travel

Another option is the SHARPER IMAGE TRAVEL SOUND MACHINE. I have the full size version but the travel one is very small and has 20 different "natural" sounds like: rain, train, ebb-tide (my favorite because is sounds just like the ocean when you are up on deck looking over the rail), rainforest, deep woods, roadside, fireplace, etc.

It is about $70 dollars but very crisp, clear sounds. You can find them at www.sharperimage.com or at any of the Sharper Image stores in mall, or, order from the catalog.

I got mine at Bed Bath & Beyond. It was an alarm clock/radio also. I think that it was $20 or less. Worked great for me, annoyed my husband. I think I didn't speak to him for about a half day after his griping about it "keeping him awake". That was a big joke to me. He can sleep anywhere and anytime. I guess I'll bring it again on our cruise in May (for the clock, anyway).

That Sharper Image one is pretty nice. I ALMOST got it, but it was just a little too much for what I wanted to spend. I highly recommend it to anybody that's willing to spend for a good one though, very clear sounds. Not as muddy as some of the cheaper ones.

My wife and I use a big box fan at home for our noise (even when it's cold that sucker's running on high . . . sounds like we're sleeping on the wing of the Spruce Goose.) We were going to take my alarm clock (which also has some nature sounds as well as a CD player, which I could use for my thuderstorms CD.) But I'm tempted to just bring along a small fan instead. One of those really small ones that doesn't move a lot of air, but puts out a nice, smooth droning noise. Plus, if it's a little hot in our rooms (or the bathroom after a shower) we could use it in there.

My husband & I also use a big box fan..can't sleep without it. Where can I get the small ones this time of year?

I also want to add that Hubby and I alway's take a small fan with us everywhere. We can't sleep without the sound of the fan. It is small enough that it fits in a small bag with 2 pillows. I would think Walmart and K-mart chains would have fans out now. You could also check online. We bought ours at Walmart in Orlando before our first cruise, We paid about $12.00

It is great to know that I am not alone, I absolutely cannot sleep without a fan on full blast!! My husband has finally gotten used to it after about 10 years! On our last cruise, we brought a little radio shack alarm clock with choice of "white noise" sounds, and kept it on ebb-tide. I have never slept better in my life, no kidding. With the gentle rocking of the ship, the wave sound, and no kids yelling "MOOOOMMMMMM!" It as about $15 at radio shack, and has a light up digital clock with alarm. Battery op. -Sue
