I've had the Monte Cristo sandwich at Blue Bayou in Disneyland and like it a lot. Where can I get one at Disneyworld? It's a bit much for everyday meals but for a vacation it's a good treat!

I don't think you can find Monte Cristo sandwich anywhere at WDW these days. Sorry!

I've never seen one, either. Though if Bennigans are close to WDW (I can't remember if they are in Florida), they have the best!!

Many years ago, the restaurant that is now Tony's served Monte Cristos. At least one other place did too but for the life of me I can't remember where...maybe at the Disney Village.

Maybe that is someting that DL should have shared with WDW for the anniversary! ;)

The Monte at the Blue Bayou is terrific. I think Columbia Harbour House used to have a Monte, but it has been gone for a long, long time.

I thought I had seen posts from people here about having one, maybe I am mistaken. Maybe somewhere at the boardwalk or downtown disney?

If I'm not misteaken (spelling intentional), a Monte Cristo sandwich is ham, turkey, and melted cheese between two slices of French toast. The last time I had one was at a diner near me. They're yummy! :goodvibes

Is it a breakfast sandwich? Try Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney. They might have it on their breakfast menu. Being a vegetarian myself, I don't know if they have the Monte Cristo because it's not something I would eat, but they have something similar in name.

And even if they don't have what you are looking for, they have lots of other good sandwiches! Sorry I can't be of more help...

Yeah, we have Bennigans in Orlando - except they don't serve the Monte Cristos the traditional way, they're battered and deep fried. Way too heavy! There's one right next to Disney, on 535. If you're at the Crossroads exit of I4, it's in the opposite direction of Crossroads.

Croque Monsieur is the sandwich you are looking for, at least in Boston Croque Monsieur has always been the same as a Monte Cristo.....the restaurant is Chef de France for lunch.

The Monte Cristo that used to be served at the Town Square Cafe at WDW wasn't like the Croque Monsieur at all at least from the descriptions in the old OG. It was deepfried french toast. As I recall it even had jeely or currants somehow and was dusted with powdered sugar. That is why I never ordered it!!!THe one at Bennigan's sounds more like it.

Love the Croque Monsieur at Chefs BTW.

I have never heard of Monte Cristos NOT being deep fried and with powdered sugar on top. Everytime I've ordered them out that's what they are like (various restaurants). I just think Bennigans serves the best one but they can be found in other chains. And it is served with a raspberry jam to dip the sandwich in. I never finish more than half - DH and I always split. VERY heavy dining!

Alright, I got curious and did a search. This is what a Monte Cristo Sandwich is according to Wikipedia (there are other sites as well if you want to search):

Monte Cristo sandwich
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Jump to: navigation, search
A Monte Cristo sandwich consists of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese between two slices of bread, soaked in an egg-based batter and grilled or deep-fried.

It is often served with a currant or raspberry jelly, powdered sugar, or sweet mustard sauce. The sandwich is often served with fresh fruit or with maple syrup on the side.

Origins
The Monte Cristo sandwich appears to be an American derivative of the Croque Monsieur, a similarly batter-dipped sandwich from France. Its precise appearance in the United States remains in dispute - records from various Los Angeles restaurants, including the Brown Derby, have included the sandwich in their menus and cookbooks as far back as the 1940s.[1] Still, much of its popularity and mystique stems from being a featured menu item at Disneyland's Blue Bayou Restaurant (located in New Orleans Square), which opened in 1966. [2]

The sandwich's etymological origins are equally contentious. While numerous colorful theories exist, the most straightforward explanation is that "Monte Cristo" is an intentional corruption of the aforementioned "croque monsieur".

The ones I've always had, and think taste better, are dipped in an egg "batter" - just like french toast, not a thick batter like on fish and chips. *shrug* The only place I've ever seen them that they've had a thick batter on was at Bennigan's.

I have only had the other kind....not deep fried and sprinkled with powdered sugar and then jelly or something....

But hey, it is a derivative of the Croque Monsieur so in a pinch if you need a Monte Cristo you can find something at Chef de France for lunch... Better than no Monte Cristo at all. :)

I prefer the dipped in batter & deep fried like bennigans altho the one at DL was very good (and very similiar to one that's served here locally). Maybe that's why I prefer the other. You know the grass is always greener... LOL

My favorite place to get a Monte Cristo is in the Blue Bayoo resturant in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. VERY good.

Unfortunately this only exists in Disneyland.

There was a Monte Cristo sandwich on the menu at Olivia's (OKW) when we ate there yesterday. We didn't order it.

"Grilled Monte Cristo - parmesan encrusted sandwich with ham, turkey and bacon with Swiss, mozzarella and American cheese. Served with marinara sauce and french fries $11.29"

I agree it's not a REAL Monte Cristo unless deep fried and dipped in powered sugar. But at least it has the name.
