Where to eat at AK, now that our favorite Tusker House is changing?

Tusker House counter service has always been our FAVORITE counter service in all of WDW. We are so sad to see it go, but when it does reopen as a buffet we will surely try it! Unfortunately, during our upcoming October trip the Tusker House will be closed for rehab. In all our trips to AK we have never tried an other counter service places, but will be forced to this time. Where do you recommend? And why? FYI... we will have our DS 4 and DD 1 with us if that makes a difference.

I was telling Dh about it being gone, he kept looking at me weird and couldnt place the name. I told him rotiserie chicken, green beans, etc. the only place we eat at AK. Then he asked where is he going to eat now?

It killed me that he knows the place by the food he eats there!

So I also would love to see the results of this poll!

We really enjoy Flame Tree BBQ. The food is great!

We like Pizzafari more for the atmosphere than the food even though we've never gotten anything that was gross there.

Restaurantasaurus (spelling?) was just so so.

Tusker House was one of my top 3 favorite counter service meals in all of WDW (tied with the Shrimp Pad Thai at the Tomorrowland Noodle Station and the fish and chips from the Yorkshire County Fish Shop). I will miss it a lot.

I intend to try the new buffet at Tusker, and I will certainly try Yak & Yetti when it opens (despite my aversion to eating in an establishment that has the word Yak right in its name). But I will also be eating more at Flame Tree, which has excellent BBQ chicken.

Flame Tree is great, I love the outdoor seating by the river. Very relaxing! I also like Pizzafari, not so much for the pizza (have yet to find any pizza at WDW that is good but Pizzafari's is better than some) but for the sandwiches. They have two I like, a hot Italian one and a chicken parmesan one.

Flame Tree BBQ is great!! I love the ribs there!!

We also really enjoy Pizzafari, but like the PP, not so much for the pizza as for the sandwiches!!

I was not aware that Tusker House was changing... sadly, it was my favorite, too.

We're a "counter service" family, as we don't like to be tied down with reservations. However, if we have to "make plans" then we really enjoy the Rainforest Cafe.

Flametree is good, too, but nothing will beat the Tusker House for me.

We didn't like Tusker House, so that is no big deal to us. We may try Flame Tree or just eat a large breakfast and snack on some pretzels until our 5:40 ADR for Boma.

I too am sad to see Tuskers changing. My family has enjoyed our meals there. We had the chicken salad there for the first time, last Sept., and we're planning on having it again this Sept.-can't though, cause it'll be closed Also the chicken and salmon, where also good.

We do, however, like Flametree. And of course DD7 loves Restaurantosaurus (McDs of course!)

I voted Flame Tree. I always get the beef sandwich w/ corn on the cob and baked beans. I really like the baked beans. We like to sit down by the water with EE in the background. It has a pretty dense tree canopy and is always pleasant even when on the warm side.

I voted other because we don't usually stick around for lunch. There's better food elsewhere and it doesn't take us that long to do what we want to do at AK.

We like Flame Tree. The main thing that gave Tusker House a slight edge over FT for us was the indoor seating, and I do hate to see them doing away with air conditioned CS locations, especially in AK where I just can't see bothering with a sit-down meal during their short hours.

Boy! I guess it's pretty obvious that we should give Flame Tree BBQ a try! We're planning on spending two different days at AK so we'll probably hit Flame Tree one day for lunch, then check out what Yak and Yetti looks like the 2nd day. If looks like we might "Yak" from their food, we'll probably hit Pizzafari instead.

Another Tusker House fan here, but I'm willing to give the new incarnation a try when it opens.

We did eat at Flame Tree this past Wednesday. No more corn on the cob (bummer!), but the corn muffins were dang good. The ribs were spot on, a gloriously messy treat. Chicken and pulled pork got thumbs up from our bunch, too.

I will say that the seating area down by the river, overlooking Expedition Everest, was sublime. There was a great breeze, and there was an alligator cruising around right at water's edge. It might not be pleasant on a terribly hot day, but this last week was divine.

Looked like there was a lot of work yet to be done on the Yackin' Yeti.
