Where should I rent points for?

Anyway, I wanted to try a DVC property in late Jan. 09 to introduce myself and my DH to the idea of DVC. I plan on booking a deluxe hotel for the first couple of days and then move into a DVC 1 bedroom for the last 5 days.

Where should I try to get into to give us a real taste of DVC?

Each resort has it's own plusses and minuses. You really have to check out the descriptions of each resort and see what appeals to most to you.

Do you want to be close to downtown disney?
Do you want to see animals outside your balcony?
Do you want to be real close to the magic kingdom?
Do you want the option of walking to epcot or the studios?

The list goes on and everyone here most likely will have their own reasons why they think their opinion is the best. Happy planning!

What is cool, is the total variations of responses that you will get, with owners bashing and loving diff resorts for the same reason.

"I love AK cause its so far removed and quiet", vs "I hate AK cause its so far removed and quiet.".

Everyone has a diff love and reason for it.

Why not skip the deluxe and rent from 2 DVC resorts?

Just the two of you, what's your favorite park? Most folks tend to pick a resort close to their favorite areas or parks. You would be wise to choose based where you might want to buy.

My motto is: Rent where you like to stay, buy where you love to rent.

We started with Villas at Wilderness Lodge, but if you are wanting to rent in Jan 09 in one of the smaller DVC resorts, it is really time now! Good luck.

I want to do a 2 day stay at a deluxe because my DH thinks that maybe DVC isn't for us and that staying in deluxe resorts whenever we go down is fine. I want to show him and let him experience first hand the differences between the two and then we'll be able to make a more informed decision.

For the deluxe I was thinking of the Poly because of the TTC/ and monorail (we intend to eat at many of the restaurants at Contemporary and GF).

But I can't decide which DVC resort.

I am not so thrilled with AKV's restaurants and the rooms look very dark, plus the bathtubs seem much smaller than those at BCV, OKW, SSR etc. On the other hand, the rooms are newly done with fab flat-screen tvs and DVD players. Animals are okay (we're going on a two-week safari in Africa this September, so this isn't such a draw for us)

I am not in love with BWV either. That clown slide freaks me out!

WLV might be okay and they have the boats to MK (my favorite park)

SSR and OKW are close to DH's golf (but he gets a free taxi to and from anyway so that isn't important). We are not huge DTD fans so the proximity to that isn't a plus.

I love the look of BCV but I know they are hard to get into and since it will be January SAB won't be a big plus for us. The location to Epcot and DHS is a plus though, and this resort is on my short list of where to buy. If I did get this resort I might decide to stay at the Beach Club just so it is easier to move our stuff/ check-in.

My vote would be a one bdr at the BCV

Stay a few nights at AKV savanna view, since that is where you can purchase most easily at the moment. Then move to OKW 1 bedroom for the weekend....cheaper points, and a LOT of room. It will give you a taste of the two extremes of DVC. THe oldest and the newest and the average size and the largest.

Our first "DVC" stay (Ok, we paid cash from CRO for a 2 BR at OKW ) was before we even knew what DVC was. WOW!! The villas at OKW are HUGE!! We didn't know about the possibility of renting when we went on our honeymoon so we stayed at WL. Then, we found out about renting points...THAT has become my addiction! We rented points in January and stayed in a 1BR at OKW. We are staying again on rented points at AKV in October. Hopefully, we'll be members by then.

As far as your question goes (and I am NOT a DVC expert by any means) I would say that to get the feel of a DVC villa and compare it to a deluxe room, I would stay at a DVC resort that is not attached to a deluxe resort. That way, you can truly separate your "hotel" experience from your "DVC" experience.

I am biased towards OKW. The rooms are HUGE (950 sq ft for a 1 BR!) and it is laid out like a little community. You can park right in front of your building and it is an easy walk to a pool. If you stay 1BR or bigger, you'll have a laundry ROOM in your villa, not a stacked w/d in a closet. It really feels like a home...I could live there!

I am staying at AKV on our next trip because my DD's LOVE the animals. I plan on buying in there because I like the theme, but I also plan on staying at OKW again too. Actually, I'd like to stay at ALL the DVC resorts!
