Where is your favorite seat on the airplane?

We pefer anything in front or just after the wings, for the view. I love exit rows when I travel alone, but on vacation we need the space below the seats, and DD likes the window, so that's out of the question.

Unless I'm traveling with DD & DW, I HATE the middle seat. I feel like a piece of ham in a sandwich.

MD-80s and 727s have engines in the back, plus galley and lavatories, so it's very noisy there. My worst nightmare: DFW to PHX, on and MD-80, in the middle seat, next-to-last row. I got on my knees and kissed the jetway when I arrived :faint:

that is not next to some nasty, germ infested nose blowing and coughing person or the kids kicking the seat behind me.

What are noise cancelling headphones? Sorry to ask such a dumb question.

And thanks for all the great suggestions on where to sit!

Mine are from Bose. Here is a description from their page. There are companies that make cheaper versions of the noise cancelling headphones. I am not tired from all the noise and I used to lose my hearing for hours after flying. I don't have that problem anymore.

Less Noise. More Clarity
Bose noise-reducing headphones may look like ordinary headphones on the outside, but that's where the similarity ends. The technologies inside are a true advancement, used by the U.S. military and private pilots around the world.

A microphone in each earcup "hears" sounds an instant before they can reach the ears. Advanced electronics recognize what the listener wants to hear—a message from the control tower, music, an in-flight movie or silence—and compares it to noise the listener doesn't want to experience. Bose patented electronics then calculate and generate a signal opposite to the unwanted noise, dramatically reducing it while preserving the desired music, speech or silence.

We originally designed headsets for use on planes. But once we released our first consumer headphones, owners told us how well they worked in other noisy places—trains, buses, offices and homes. From a routine flight to Europe arose an innovation that is making many people's lives more pleasant.

While the noise reducing headphones sound nice, you may want to consider Earplanes. These help with air pressure on the inner ear and keep away the pain some people seem to get when flying. :)

Ok thank you for the info.

It sounds like most everyone likes to sit in the first 10-12 rows. I will see if I can get those seats too. My hubby wants to sit in the exit row since he is a bigger guy. We'll see what happens.

My DH and I always try and sit in the last row of the airplane, left side. That way we (usually) don't have anyone sit with us, unless the plane is completely full, and we can talk to the flight attendants.

I am flying for the first time next week and would like to know if it makes a difference where you sit on the airplane?

I have already been to seatguru.com

I just wondered what DISer's think. They are the most helpful.

Thanks bunches!

:flower:

The aisle seat of an exit row.

Either 5A or 5E (window seat, bulkhead)

(this is my preferred seat on most NW flights ... first row after first class ... on the NWA 757s, this is row 15 or 16, but it's really the same basic row)

All I want is something in the front and on an aisle. That way I get a little extra room (most of the time).

How can we find out which seats are best in relation to the screens ? I hate it when I am too far away or too close.

FTL-

If you look at seatguru.com, they will usually indicate where the screens are located.

On the AA S-80's, there was extra leg room on the 2 seat side in rows 22-25. We have been sitting there for quite a while. I don't care if I am the first person off the plane because we always have to wait for the luggage anyway.

Bear in mind that American is removing their 'More Room throughout Coach' and putting in more seats on all their aircraft including the MD-80s, so the pitch will be changing.

I know, I am so bummed about that. According to seatguru, they will all be changed over by the summer.

Those extra couple of inches were nice!

I couldn't agree more. I was willing to pay more to fly American because of that as well, but apparently most people weren't. :( It reminded me of how the pitch was 15 - 20 years ago, when you weren't crammed in like sardines.

I just looked up AA 757 and it does not show where the screens are placed on the plane. Am I missing something?
