where is the outrage now?

the link is not taking me to a story. What was on the note? What happened?

I can't open the link either. What happened? Did someone take the note he'd written at the Wall and publish it? :confused3 If so, not cool. :sad2:

what did the note say?

"Pssst, I'm just kidding"........... :lmao:

from politico.com

The Israeli paper Maariv obtains the note Obama left at the Western Wall in Jerusalem and puts a photograph of it on its front page.

The handwriting, beneath the letterhead of the King David Hotel, does appear to be Obama's. Visitors traditionally stick notes of prayer into the wall.

The note says:

Lord,

Protect my family and me. Forgive me my sins and help me guard against pride and despair.

Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just.

And make me an instrument of your will.

The paper reports that the note was taken by a yeshiva student who was at the wall at the time — a mark of how virtually nothing remains private.

The rabbi of the Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall, condemned its publication.

well it is sad that the student did that...
but what he prayed for makes me :)

we could all use more wisdom

Wow, that was some note.... and Lord knows he needs that hedge of protection now.

thanks chicago. i am posting from my cell phone and i haven't figured out if there is a way to cut and paste an url. if you go to newsday's home page you will see a link to the article. but the info from politico.com sums it up nicely.

i have no problem with the prayer Obama made and I don't think what he said should cause any negative repurcussions for him.

but to say that I am shocked at how he was treated would be an understatement.

I guess I don't understand the outrage. Is there an expectation of privacy for your litter?

But this quote brings me back to a question I often wonder about:

A written prayer that Barack Obama left this week in the cracks of the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, asks God to guide him and guard his family, an Israeli newspaper reported Friday.

Does America have any holy places or sacred cities or anything like that? I know it's a weapon the media always likes to use against America. It seems especially in Iraq - every single city is reported as being a "holy city" or a "sacred city" and how dare we even tread on that ground.

Does America have any such places?

Yes, the Barack Obama Campaign Headquarters. ;)

Is this a serious question? Why would America have these types of "holy" places. This isn't where Christianity, Judaism, and Islam started.

Unless...did Scientology start here? Can L.A. be considered a Holy city?

corndog...of course he had an expectation of privacy. 2,000 years of Jewish tradition violated by a seminary student is a shonde...that's Yiddish for "disgrace". what's written and placed in the Kotel is between the writer and G-d.

when I go to aish.com and ask a rabbinical student to print my prayer and place it in the Wall on my behalf, I don't expect to see the contents on the front page of Maariv or Ha'Aretz.

there's no written law but the student and the paper have acted unethically in the eyes of ;{wish tradition.

I don't know…There's just something about this story that has me going hmmmm… Like it's a great distraction from the story about the near riot at the wall when Obama posted his huge banners. And it's a huge distraction from the story about Obama's refusal to visit wounded soldiers because the Pentagon wouldn't allow him to pimp them as campaign props. I don't know… I think this story has Obama's campaign's finger prints all over it. I'm just sayin'…

Sorry, I didn't realize Obama is Jewish.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: It was only a matter of time...

...and we would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!! :teeth:

Sorry, I didn't realize Obama is Jewish.

stop ..you are being disrespectful of the Jewish tradition now....

undercovermom gave a very detailed account of the situation.....

Many people of all faiths have left notes in the wailing wall.... including the Pope!!!

If I am ever fortunate enough to get there i will also!

your comment is ignorant.....:sad2:

i am biting my tongue here, corndog.

the expectation of privacy is afforded to anyone who cares to offer up a prayer at the Kotel. we didn't hang a sign there that says "Jews only".

the only time I ever heard of a note in the Wall being published...Pope John Paul Ii visited Jerusalem and put a note in the Wall. but the intention was for the note to be shared with the people of the world. in fact it was preserved at Yad Vashem.

should you ever be so fortunate as to find yourself in the Holy City, corndog. by all means go ahead and write a note to G-d. I PROMISE NOT TO PULL IT OUT AND READ IT!
