Where is safe in Delaware???

I thought 69th street was Upper Darby not Drexel Hill. They are having problems with Asian Gangs in the Upper Darby area.

Yes 69th St is Upper Darby.

What is the area near the Drexelbrook catering? Isn't that Drexel Hill? If you stay on that same street don't you wind up near 69th street? Aren't Drexel Hill and Upper Darby "neighbors" so to speak?

(It's been a while since I've been out in that area. I used to go to church in that area)

Yes Drexelbrook catering is Drexel Hill. And yes if you take State Rd straight down you will wind up very close to 69th st.

DH and UD are neighbors. The kids all go to Upper Darby School District schools. From what my friends who live or lived in that area say the grade schools arent bad it is the middle and HS where things get hairy. All the kids go to Upper Darby but if you walk about three blocks up State Rd youa re in Drexel Hill.

Cindy B what church? Let's see if you are Catholic it was either St Dots or St Bernies:rotfl:

The Drexel Brook Shopping center is on State Rd. Drexel Hill is very big it butts up to Springfield,Clifton Hights, Lansdown & Upper Darby. I thought 69 st was the end of Upper Darby & then you are in Philly.

I am getting great info about the County I have lived in for 40 years:thumbsup2

I never knew part of Wayne was DC.

Sorry OP

I learned so much by going to OHara bc everybody lived all over the flippin place, then working in Darby and then KOP and now it seems like all of Delco moved to Chester County:rotfl:

BTW where in Netwon Sq? I grew up behind Russel school in Broomall and then behind LP shopping Center

Not Catholic. The church I used to attend rented out a church right near the Kindergarten Center. It was on State Road about a block next to the Kindergarten Center.

Wow! I didn't know everyone thought the schools were so bad here. My children go to a public high school here that was voted one of the top 100 in the naiton by Newsweek Magazine. Everyone child that graduates in the state witha C average or abocve gets 2 free years of college at the local community college. I'm suprised because we have actually been pretty proud of our area.

I went to O'Hara too! I'm 45. I lived in Castle Rock.

I had no idea we were so backwards here either. :confused3 There are definitely some lackluster schools in Delaware, just as there are in every state. However, I had no idea they were sooooo bad. I graduated from a local school and I think I had a pretty daggone good education. LOL

I remember seeing that & was surprised. I'm sure the schools are much better now. They used to be bad 20 years ago when we were there. We only lived in Lewes 1 year.

Hey you have us beat I'm in Garnet Valley & we did not make the list. I thought I was in one of the best districts around.:rotfl:

I second the Gloucester County area; it's not far from Cherry Hill. Haddon Township is a nice area - good school district. I suggest staying in NJ if you're renting for now. The DRPA is trying for toll increases - it could cost you $5 a day just to cross one of the bridges (it's $3 now). Good Luck!

This is silly... if you're renting an apartment, look in Medford, Moorestown, Mt. Laurel or Haddonfield. Try Craigslist or the paper to find a cheap apartment, maybe a carriage house or a subdivided house if an apartment complex is too expensive.

The bad housing market has also depressed the rental market. Make it work for you!

NJ schools are hit or miss. If you try to save money on the apartment by going to somewhere like Lindenwold, you'll regret it the first day your kids get home from school.

And DE or PA are bad choices because you'll eat the cost difference up in gas.

Im 38. I drew a blank for minute as to where Castle Rock was. That is practically Edgemont or is it Edgmont:lmao:

It is Edgemont with a NSQ post office. The Bridge is the boundry line. I took the Marple bus to O'Hara.

Come on down to Williamstown. We have at least 2 blue ribbon schools, my daughter went to school in Williamstown and we never had a problem.:goodvibes :goodvibes

That is true.. I forgot about the bridge toll increase.

That commute from CH to PA/DE would just be eaten up by fees/gas increase.

Hockessin is a great area! It's like 10 minutes from the De Mem bridge. It can be a little pricey for homes, but I'm not sure about apartments. It''s worth looking into! It's also very close to the Christiana mall and Christiana Hospital.

Wow...I live in Delaware and have my entire life. I don't know why you'd say the schools in Delaware are terrible. Seriously. There are a few I'd never send my kid to, but overall, I wouldn't say our schools are bad! As far as private schools, there are many of them in northern Delaware and I have had family that attended St. Marks Catholic High School up there. However, they were from the Kent County Maryand area, where schools are notoriously bad! And to the poster who said Delaware has no property tax is VERY wrong. Delaware most definitely has property taxes and schools think nothing of trying to get referendums passed that will raise those taxes. I live in "below the canal" in Delaware and I will admit that the lifestyle is a bit different down here.

OP, in northern Delaware, you would want to look at the area north of Wilmington around RT 202 and west of there. Good schools, safe neighborhoods, and easy access to 95. I used to commute from 10 mnutes south of Newark to Pennsauken every day and the trip took me about 50 minutes unless there was a major accident. The biggest hold up is where 95 and 1 come together so if you live north of Wilmington you will avoid all this. To the rest of you, Delaware has no sales tax. Our property taxes are about 1/3 of PAs and maybe 1/4 of NJs. There are many excellent schools in Delaware, both public and private. The biggest difference is I can send my kids to the private school of my choice cause I am not paying the state of NJ (or PA) $10,000 or more a year for property taxes.

Hello fellow Dis Delawareans!!:wave2:

DH & I didn't move to Delaware until we were adults. I always felt my children were getting a pretty good education & when Newsweek came out with their list it just confirmed my feelings. I did graduate from Del Tech. I really loved that college and am just tickled that my children will attend there for free! Especially since I am still paying on my student loans. :)
