Where is safe in Delaware???

I bet that is what the OP meant to ask. I was baffled why she would want to move to Delaware to work in Cherry Hill.

OP I live in Delaware County & on the bourder of Delaware the state.
Delaware county is huge. I have a 40 min commute to work & my business is still in Delaware County. There are some really bad areas in the county.

Safe areas IMO are Springfield, Media, Newtown Sq, Broomall, Havertown, Edgmont, Upper Providence, Swarthmore, Wallingford, Ridley, Lima,
, Aston, Glen Mills, Boothwyn & Chester Heights, (NOT CHESTER)

I agree with this list.

Don't forget about other areas of Delaware County:

I lived n Wayne for a while. There is Wayne, Radnor, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, and such.

However, Wayne to Cherry Hill is about an hour commute. Been there, done that.

An hour from Wayne to Cherry Hill? Was this before the Blue Route? I did the trek from Broomall to Cherry Hill pre and post Blue Route and it didnt take an hour. 40 minutes on a bad day.

Also there is Wynnewood (Montgomery Co)and other neighborhoods where you could easliy get to City Ave and the jump on Rt 76 and go over Ben Franklin Bridge and you are in Cherry Hill.

This was with the blue route. It would take one hour from Wayne to Cherry Hill. Mind you there was always something...

I will never forget one Wayne to Marlton trip took 2.5 hours. Yes, 2.5 hours! I could have been to DC in 2.5 hours!

wow I am out in Chester County now and I can get to Marlton in an hour. The only problems I ever had was in bad weather but hey it can be a nightmare going from KOP to Broomall when there is snow. 3 hours one time

I 'm pretty sure these towns are not Delaware county. DD 20 was born in Bryn Mawr hospital & it is Montgomery County.

Many of these towns are actually in both! My guys were born at Bryn Mawr too.:goodvibes Cabrini College is in Radnor but on the Delaware County side. The borders btw Delco, Montco and Chester County are very weird out here.

I grew up in Broomall!

I graduated from the Univ of De and spent half my life living in various parts of Delaware (above and below the canal). There is not one single public school that I would send my child to. Before we moved to NC (cause it was that or unemployment for me and DH) we had planned on sending our DS to catholic school.

Blackwood may be an option. It is still in Camden County, but I don't know anything about schools in that town. There are apartments there.

From what I understand, Blackwood's school district isn't terrific (I have friends in that area that are looking to get out because of it). If you aren't worried about schools though, there are some nice places in the area and are less expensive than Cherry Hill.

Wayne is Delaware County (lived there I know) Wayne is also in Chester County. I actually lived on the road where one side of the street was Delaware County and the other side of the street is Chester county.

Radnor = Delaware County

Bryn Mawr= Montgomery I think, but it straddles Delaware
Ardmore= same thing.

I've heard that Blackwood is ok but once you hit the high school it got a bit interesting.

As for another PP, I would not live in Drexel Hill. There are great streets and not so great streets (69th street area). Schools are iffy at best.

I guess we just had bad timing.. it was always an hour from Wayne to Cherry Hill/Marlton area. I dreaded our commute so we wound up living in NJ.

Yeah the Upper Darby School District is not so great from what I have been told.

What's right next to Upper Darby? Lansdale, or Landsdowne? Whichever that is, I head good things about that district.

I've also heard good things about Springfield PA as well. That is still almost an hour commute to Cherry Hill.

Radnor (Wayne) schools are excellent. Tredyffrin/Easttown district is also excellent.

I would suggest looking in Gloucester County - better insurance rates than in Camden County. We lived in West Deptford Twp for 13 years. The schools are decent and you're maybe 20-30 minutes from Cherry Hill.

Lansdale is up the NE extension of the turnpike.

Lansdowne is next to Upper Darby but I wouldnt recommend living there. I use to work in hospital near there.

Springfield Delware County (bc of course there is one in Montco too just make life more confusing) is a very nice place with good schools.

Recently my brother did the commute to Cherry Hill from Broomall and got on the blue Route in Springfiled and it took him 40 minutes when leaving at 7am.

T/E is very well known for its school district as well as Radnor. It is the Main Line, of course

I don't know who is giving you info on the "safer" areas near Cherry Hill, but Maple Shade is a very nice community and borders Cherry Hill. The schools there are pretty good and rents are fairly affordable. The Robert Mill Apartment complex has 2BRs that range from 1169-1299/month. Ryan's Run, also in Maple Shade has 2BR rents from 1050-1095/month.

Here's a link for apartments in the area from the local newspaper. You will see that there are many, many apartments, in safe neighborhoods that are in your price range. http://www.apartments.com/partner/R...nimum=1000&Rent_Maximum=1400&twobdrm=1&am28=0

Commuting from the western Philadelphia suburbs to Cherry Hill during rush hour will be an absolute nightmare, as will commuting to Delaware. If you choose those areas, be prepared for at least a one hour commute.

I thought 69th street was Upper Darby not Drexel Hill. They are having problems with Asian Gangs in the Upper Darby area.

I mentioned Ryans Run in a PP. I actually live pretty close to that complex and it looks well kept and neat. I totally forgot about Roberts Mills. I've been in those apartments... they are pretty nice! There is the Colwick complex right near there, but that is still in Cherry Hill.

I wouldn't personally get all crazy about which zip code in Cherry Hill. Yes, there is one that is more "affluent" but its all the same school district. My neighborhood is an older established neighborhood where kids walk around, ride thier bikes and skateboard. My neighbors know each other and are very friendly. It is a "normal" neighborhood, with people from all walks of life and occupations. There really isn't any keeping up with the Joneses at all.
Its a neighborhood where kids still walk to and from school and ride thier bikes around. Just today in 25 degree weather, there were kids outside skateboarding. I went to the other zip code (08003) today and there was nobody outside! The development I went to had no character..no sidewalks, no true neighborhood feel... Sure the houses were beautiful, but who wants that.

I like my zip code. I've had no problems at all with the neighborhood. This neighborhood has block parties, Halloween/Easter egg hunts, and school stuff. The school is in a walkable distance.

What is the area near the Drexelbrook catering? Isn't that Drexel Hill? If you stay on that same street don't you wind up near 69th street? Aren't Drexel Hill and Upper Darby "neighbors" so to speak?

(It's been a while since I've been out in that area. I used to go to church in that area)

The Drexel Brook Shopping center is on State Rd. Drexel Hill is very big it butts up to Springfield,Clifton Hights, Lansdown & Upper Darby. I thought 69 st was the end of Upper Darby & then you are in Philly.

I am getting great info about the County I have lived in for 40 years:thumbsup2

I never knew part of Wayne was DC.
