Where in WDW for a family of 6?

On our upcoming trip to WDW we are staying off-site because there are six of us in my family (2 adults, 4 kids) and from what I understand the Disney resort rooms are for 4 people, so we booked a condo style place nearby. We have stayed at one of the All Star Resorts before when we only had 2 kids, but this time I didn't know how to manage it short of booking two adjoining rooms which I didn't want to do. Are there any other options for large families to stay on a Disney property? Do any of the Disney hotels sleep 6 to a room like in a mini-suite or something? I'd like to know for next time.

We went with 5 kids our first trip. Did not know that connecting rooms were an option so we booked the Fort Wilderness cabins. They sleep 6, in 2 full size beds and one set of bunk beds, plus one infant 2 or younger in a pack in play. Loved the full size kitchen and the bedroom being separated from the living room/sleeping quarters.

We learned about connecting rooms just in time for our most recent trip, as we now had 6 kids. We got connecting rooms in Pop century and loved the additional bathroom (cabins had one bathroom.)
They say that they guarentee connecting rooms for 2 adults traveling with more than two small children. Some people have had problems with this, but we did not. The rooms had an inside door that connected them.
If you were to do this in the future, make sure you request CONNECTING not adjoining, as adjoining only means next to each other, not with the connecting doors.

Oh, another option is either staying at a DVC resort through Disney or renting points from a DVC owner. I think a 2 bedroom villa sleeps between 6 and 8.
Of the three options, the least expensive is the value resorts, then the cabins, then the villas.

We LOVE stayinig onsite!

I second Fort Wilderness Cabin. It will fit 6 comfortably.

Coronado Springs is a moderate with suites. We are debating a suite there or 2 connecting at a value.

This past spring my best friend and I took our 3 girls. We stayed at Pop in 2 connecting rooms. It was the best! 2 showers, 2 toilets and 2 tvs and we could shut the 3 girls in another room to get some quiet! I would do it again!

I third the idea of Fort Wilderness Cabins!! We loved it! It was great putting the kids in the bedroom and using the comfortable Murphy bed in the living room... gave us a chance to unwind after they were in bed. Plus having a full kitchen is really nice. We only used it for cereal and popcorn but it was great to eat before we left in the morning... and have the maid clean up the kitchen while we were gone. (We rented a car so we hit a grocery on the way in.)
It was much quieter than a hotel too. And the camp ground is fun. Do you know the play Disney movies on a Big Screen outdoors? Chip & Dale come and they have coco and smores! We love it. We will definitly do it again. :cheer2:

Coronado Springs and Wilderness Lodge both have "junior" suites. We've never stayed at either, but I discovered them when looking for accomodations for our family of five.

We just stayed at the POP in a connecting room because there are 7 of us. I agree with the 2 bathrooms, 2 tv etc. We loved it and it was very economical

We also did connecting room but at ASSp. 4 beds, 2 bathrooms, 2 tv's. great. Would do it again!!

They will guarantee connecting rooms if travelling with children.

We also have four kids, so were struggling with what to do for a room. Our first choice was a cabin at Ft. Wilderness, but they must be very popular, as there were none available when we tried to book them 10 months in advance!

We considered connecting rooms, but wanted a kitchen area to do breakfast in. Plus, our kids (DD 7, DS 6, DS 4, and his twin DD 4) do not sleep well in the same room--the girls and boys have to be split, which meant DH and I would have to be split, and I want to enjoy some of this vacation too!

In the end, we went with a 2 BR villa at WL. It's got the kitchen, a private bedroom for DH and I, and we can split the kids (girls in BR, boys on living room sleeper). It's a little more than what we wanted to pay, but we're hoping the WL atmosphere and comfort of a large villa will be worth it in the end.
