Where Does Alamo Code 7014266 Come From?

7014266 - would using the Kiosk help in getting out with the code?
:rolleyes1

No, given all the debate over it, I wanted to check it out myself and the kiosk won't continue the rental and tells you to go to the counter.

Tara, did you try the online check in (at their web site "check in now")?

Yes. You still have to use the kiosk and it will not allow you to proceed without sending you to the counter instead. (I didn't go to the counter as I had no intention of completing the rental at the kiosk anyway.)

Nothing lower that $400! I think we will drive, I have found a car at Budget (Capital Blvd) in Raleigh for $221. It would save the wear on my car if we do that and no SW tickets to purchase.

We too used the code back in May for your 12 day trip, the counter person asked my husband where he got the code from. He told them he got it online and had used it on a previous trip without any problems:rolleyes1, little white lie but whatever! They explained to him that indeed it was a South American code but would honor the rate only, we too had our printed reservation with us, but they did not give the additional driver or insurance which was fine since he is always the one driving on vacation anyway. But not a hard time at all, made their point we are not eligible for the code use but we got the price anyway, which was really all we wanted anyway:banana:

We also had friends use the code back in June, and we warned them about the South America reference we found out about and they were prepared to do the same as us, tell them they used it before, blah, blah blah ...but they managed to pay for it online and skipped the counter all together, and left in their car with no questions asked! The other couple traveling and renting a car with them got the same story we did at the counter, but again honored the rate which is really all they are looking for anyway right???

If only Alamo and other rental agencies would offer the same sweet deal to those of us right here in the US, we wouldn't have to shop around for that special code would we???:confused3

My husband and I are going back new month and are shopping around for another deal ...we are on the fence about trying that one again but not sure if we just got lucky last time and don't want to get jammed up at the counter this trip!

Tara, when are you needing the rental? I'm looking for September.

This was for a May rental that I experimented to see what happened at the kiosk with the code. I'm looking for a good rate for a trip in November but need a minivan for this trip and I'm not finding much. I've booked something through Alamo but it's nothing to write home about ($500 for a Sienna or similar).

I do it all the time as a safety measure. No you will not be charged

Has anyone made 2 reservations for the same period under the same name? I have one already with one of those questionable codes but in case it does not work, I do not want to be stuck without a car. So I am considering making a 2nd reservation with a known legit code. When I check in, will they question 2 reservations? Any penalty to not cancelling one of them prior to the trip?

We are driving, I just don't want to take my Tucson because it isn't big enough and my DH drive a truck. I have two reservations right now, a mini van from Alamo (pick up at RDU) for $426 and a mid-size SUV at Budget (RDU) for $226. I'd rather have the mini van but might have to stick with the SUV. I'll keep watching the rates for sure!

I just did the Alamo online check in and it stated to bypass the counter and go pick up the car. Looks good?????????????/

RENTAL CAR PICKUP INSTRUCTIONS:
When you arrive at the airport follow the signs for Car Rentals and bypass the rental counter.
Proceed directly to the Alamo Rent A Car pick-up area on airport.
Upon arriving at the Alamo pick-up area you will find that the lot will be laid out by car class, which is designated by posted signs.
Find the car class section for the car you have reserved, choose the car of your choice within that section and proceed to the exit booth.
Please present the credit card you used online and your drivers license to the attendant so that your transaction can be processed.

Which pick up place would be better when using this code? Orlando Airport or the Car Care Center in Disney or would
Walt Disney Dolphin Resort be better? Who will give us less questions and trouble for using the code? Does it make a difference? Anyone have an opinion?

It was my understanding that discussions about questionable codes was now discouraged on Disboards...that was the last I saw from a Moderator.

I do not have all the details but a friend just arrived on Thursday and had booked the code. All I got was a quick text saying don't use this code unless you are from South America! I guess they got caught on it. Not sure if they had to pay walk in rates or not, I'm sure I'll talk to her when she gets back. I just decided to drive my car. Even the last minute specials are not that great of a deal.

The rates I am discussing came from the Alamo and Budget websites. They are not "questionable". At least I don't think they are!

Questionable codes, such as the one in the thread title (7014266) are what I was referring to.

Codes found on rental company sites that are public (anyone can use them with no credentials) and general codes that are public with very broad or that could be used by any reasonable person (ie. AAA codes with the caveat that you must be an AAA member, which anyone could be, or Orlando tourism code if you are traveling to Orlando) are fine.

Codes that are discouraged are ones that are either non-public (corporate codes that belong to employees of companies) or could not be used by any reasonable person (ie. South American travel agent).

I think we are now going to drive our own car and book an extra night. My husband works 4 pm-1 am so he can drive at night so we can miss the traffic. But we still keep checking flights and rentals. I rather fly and do the rental....
