I saw this survey on another board and thought I would post it here for fun, although I changed it up a little. I'm curious and DVC is always in the back of my mind.. I was wondering:

1. Where is your home resort?
2. How long have you been a DVC member?
3. How many points do you have?
4. How do you and/or your family use DVC? (how many trips do you take a year? what accommodations do you use (studio/1/2 bedroom etc).
5. Did you buy from Disney or Resale?
6. What is the best thing about being a DVC member?
7. Which resorts have you stayed at and which is your favorite?
8. Looking back, would you have picked a different home resort than the one you have now?
9. How has being a DVC member changed the way you vacation?
10. Do you feel you would do it all again or do you think you could have saved a ton of money by doing the free dining when it is available or by renting points?
Have fun and Thanks

I'm having a hard time viewing this post:confused3No a's. I' ll do my best to answer all your questions without being able to quote it.

We bought 200 SSR points via resale this past spring. We vacation in a 2 bdrm because we have 4 boys. We only want to go to WDW every other year and vacation in other parts of the country other times. We picked SSR for THV, lower cost and lower MF's. I was leaning more to OKW because of the cheaper points and because we've stayed there twice and loved it. DH wanted SSR for the longer contract. Also looked at buying AKV direct-we like being farther away from the parks to escape them when we aren't there. Wouldn't have done anything different, but would love to do an add on,but DH says no - after the kids are done with college, we will add on for the 2 of us. Hope this helps.:goodvibes

Sorry, I forgot some stuff. As the kids get older, we can only travel during peak times when DVC doesn't offer discounts. I ca travel when I want, instead of when I can get a discount. Free dining is notwithstanding that big of a draw for me - too many reservations and worrying about getting there. So far, so good.

Holy crap, I thought something was wrong with my computer! Alex, can I buy an A?

Anyway:
We own at OKW, 150 pts, only since 2008, resale. Hate Saratoga Springs and refused to buy there.
Typically, we only get studios. Can't see the extra pts for the kitchen since I don't want to cook on vacation. We make breakfest in the studio with the microwave. Been taking two trips per year, but this year, we're taking one, long trip to save on airfare and hopefully have the time to relax more. DVC has given us the incentive to vacation every year since we have to use the points and I don't want to go through the hassle of renting them. I think the best thing about being a DVC member is knowing that we don't have the expense of the hotel stay, since it's basically pre-paid. Yea, the maint. fees are still there, but I have done the math from so many different angles and our payback is only a couple trips away. Actually, if I compare to staying at a DVC hotel or deluxe, our payback is this year. So far we have only stayed at SS and OKW, with OKW being, by far our favorite. In May we get to stay at WLV, so we'll have another one to compare with.

Would we do it again? We only did it because we found "resales" and it saved us a ton of money AND we got the resort we wanted. But, at the time we didn't know about renting points from DVC members. Had we known, we may very well had gone down that path for a couple years. But, I think we did the right thing since purchasing DVC will keep going up, renting pts will probably keep going up, so we're locked in and very happy with our choices.

I think you need to buy a vowel. Preferably an A.

I KNOW!!! :rotfl: I don't know what's wrong, now even the second post is messed up.
Hopefully by the time I get home from work it will be fixed, it's making me crazy

I saw this survey on another board and thought I would post it here for fun, although I changed it up a little. I'm curious and DVC is always in the back of my mind.. I was wondering:

1. Where is your home resort?
BLT
2. How long have you been a DVC member?
Since September 2010
3. How many points do you have?
100pts but are planning on adding on about 150 more in the near future
4. How do you and/or your family use DVC? (how many trips do you take a year? what accommodations do you use (studio/1/2 bedroom etc).
May will be our first time using DVC and we have a studio booked for 9 nights, then in January 2012 we are thinking of doing a 1 bedroom for my DH's birthday trip at OKW (more bang for the buck)
5. Did you buy from Disney or Resale?
We bought directly from Disney
6. What is the best thing about being a DVC member?
From what I know of it so far, I like the fact that we can go to Disney and not have to pay the hotel prices that always go up each year, we will be at a consistent rate each time....I will be able to answer this question more after our first stay.
7. Which resorts have you stayed at and which is your favorite?
First stay will be at BCV and cannot wait
8. Looking back, would you have picked a different home resort than the one you have now?
Probably not, eventhough we really love the Epcot area, we are really glad we bought into BLT because if we can't get into a resort we want to get into, we know we will always have BLT to fall back on....and that to me is not too shabby of an idea.
9. How has being a DVC member changed the way you vacation?
We can go to Disney more than we have in the past, plus we have never used the points system before, so this is all new to us.
10. Do you feel you would do it all again or do you think you could have saved a ton of money by doing the free dining when it is available or by renting points?
Absolutely we would do it again, but then again we haven't done our first stay yet, but I have talked to friends who are members and they said it was the best decision that they have made.
Have fun and Thanks

My answers are in RED

Home Resort: BCV and SSR

Been a DVC Member for 10 years; last add on was 6 years ago

Points: 500 total, 2/3 at BCV in 2 contracts, 1/3 at SSR in 1 contract (we have 3 children so 3 contracts)

How Used: Our children are all adults so we use it differently. This year one of my daughters in law's family are using multiple studios. Later in the year, we are taking middle son and family and staying in a 2 bedroom.

Resale or Direct: 1 was Direct, 2 were resale

Best Thing About DVC: It's an easy vacation

Stayed: At all but BLT. Favorite is VGC at DLR. Love that resort. Favorite at WDW is BCV because of the location but favorite resort is really Kidani.

Home Resort Change: I would not change BCV but I wish I didn't own at SSR. When Pleasure Island was open, it was great. Now, I wish all my points were at BCV.

DVC Changed the Way we Vacation: No

Would I do it again: No. I vacationed at WDW long before I owned DVC. I've done over 20 vacations there as an adult. We are just tired of it. My husband and I now prefer to go to more interesting places; our next big trip will be the Amazon. Our children, once they outgrew the magic, do not enjoy WDW. They prefer to go to Hawaii (and not Oahu), Jamaica, Fiji, etc. Even our 6 year old grandson was underwhelmed and prefers the beach.

BWV, BCV, SSR & BLT

Members for over 10 years, have a lot of points but always wish I had more

1. Where is your home resort?
OKW and HHI

Usually 5 nights at OKW for xmas week and 4 nights at HHI in summer(usually 1 bedroom unless taking my sisters then 2 bedroom); also have often given family members studios at OKW and have also added 1-2 nights at HHI on drive back to Boston after xmas trip usually 1 bedroom.
5. Did you buy from Disney or Resale?
of course 1994 OKW purchase was trhu disney; HHI add-on via resale (dvcbyresale and TSS)
6. What is the best thing about being a DVC member?
flexibility and knowing you have your vacations for the future.
7. Which resorts have you stayed at and which is your favorite?
BCV, AKLV, liked them both and have done multiple trips to BCV when DS was young>
BWV-hated the resort, service and CM al around and would not return.
8. Looking back, would you have picked a different home resort than the one you have now?
Not applicable for us we bought when OKW was it, but we love our resrot and have never regretted it. HHI was the best purchase for us and use it as much as OKW.
9. How has being a DVC member changed the way you vacation?
we always have 2 planned trips a year, but often fill in with others.
10. Do you feel you would do it *ll *g*in or do you think you could h*ve s*ved * t** of m**ey by doing the free dining when it is *v*il*ble or by renting points?
Nope, whould not change a thing. Would not have probably tried to rent points, although I'll never know because we bought so long ago.

Connears

23% in BLT and 77% in BWV
2. How long have you been a DVC member?
2010 (but in family since 1999)
3. How many points do you have?

4. How do you and/or your family use DVC? (how many trips do you take a year? what accommodations do you use (studio/1/2 bedroom etc).
1 per year usually - 2BR with family
5. Did you buy from Disney or Resale?
Disney
6. What is the best thing about being a DVC member?
Guaranteed vacations to my favorite place
7. Which resorts have you stayed at and which is your favorite?
BWV, SSR, OKW, AKV - we like BWV for location, OKW for space and AKV for views/theming
8. Looking back, would you have picked a different home resort than the one you have now?
No, in 1999 BWV was the choice and in 2010 BLT was what we were waiting for - monorail resort
9. How has being a DVC member changed the way you vacation?
Annual trips to WDW, forced vacations (removed excuses not to go)
10. Do you feel you would do it all again or do you think you could have saved a ton of money by doing the free dining when it is available or by renting points?
Would certainly do it again. Free dining goes as the economy goes, over the long run I'm confident our decision pays off. DVC is my vacation "stock", I'm in for the long-term gain, not short-term wins.

Members over 10 years at BWV ( 570 points 4 contracts-3 direct, 1 resale)

We stay in anything from a 1br to a GV. Trip this May will be at BLT in a GV (10 of us)

Most trips are at BWV, but we've stayed at OKW, VWL, and BCV. Highest number of people taken with us is 27.

No real regrets- maybe the last contract. We added on another 150 since we started doing the larger family trips, but it hasn't always worked out well.

Points: 500 total, 2/3 at BCV in 2 contracts, 1/3 at SSR in 1 contract (we have 3 children so 3 contracts)

500 doesn't divide by 3 evenly, someone's getting screwed! Who don't you love as much as the others :rotfl:

1. Where is your home resort?
BLT
2. How long have you been a DVC member?
Since November 2010
3. How many points do you have?
150pts for now
4. How do you and/or your family use DVC? (how many trips do you take a year? what accommodations do you use (studio/1/2 bedroom etc).
August will be our first trip using our DVC points. We are staying in a studio MK view at BLT, in Jan 2012 we will stay in a studio at BLT for marathon weekend, then next summer we will try one of the other DVC resorts-we are thinking BCV. A trip to Hawaii in a few years when our kids are a little older.
5. Did you buy from Disney or Resale?
We bought directly from Disney
6. What is the best thing about being a DVC member?
Have not had a chance to figure this out really yet. Though we did use our DVC membership to purchased the discounted APs which is a nice savings.
7. Which resorts have you stayed at and which is your favorite?
First stay will be at BLT in August. Our current Disney fave though is Polynesian so I am a little hesitant to try something new. I hope I can live without Poly, because the points to stay there is outrageous!
8. Looking back, would you have picked a different home resort than the one you have now?
Probably not, part of our love of Poly is the convenience to MK and Epcot. BLT should offer the same.
9. How has being a DVC member changed the way you vacation?
Probably will feed our addiction to WDW more and we will try to go more than once a year now if we can.
10. Do you feel you would do it all again or do you think you could have saved a ton of money by doing the free dining when it is available or by renting points?
Absolutely! We always thought we would NEVER buy DVC because we thought there was no way it was cost effective. We went to a presentation to kill some time last November and we were really surprised by what we heard. So here we are, new DVC owners just wishing we did it about 10 years ago and more $$$ spent already than I care to think.

1. Where is your home resort?
BCV and VWL
2. How long have you been a DVC member?
Feb. 2000
3. How many points do you have?
400
4. How do you and/or your family use DVC? (how many trips do you take a year? what accommodations do you use (studio/1/2 bedroom etc).
We usually do about 2 trips/year. Accommodations depend on whether or not we take other people with us, but usually a 1/2 bedroom. Most of our points are used within DVC, but we have traded out and cruised on points.
5. Did you buy from Disney or Resale?
We bought directly from Disney
6. What is the best thing about being a DVC member?
Owning DVC "forces" us to take vacations. Sometimes we get so busy in our regular lives, we forget to take time out to enjoy the world around us. It's also provided us with a ton of memories, both of our nuclear and extended family.
7. Which resorts have you stayed at and which is your favorite?
We've stayed at all of the WDW resorts and HH. My favorite on-site is BCV, but we're fond of HHI
8. Looking back, would you have picked a different home resort than the one you have now?
No. We always advocated the "buy where you want to stay" school of thought. We may add some points at HHI or BLT at some point (depending what happens with the renovations of BLT), but otherwise, we really like both of our home resorts.
9. How has being a DVC member changed the way you vacation?
We vacation on a better schedule now. WDW certain seasons, and other places at different times.
10. Do you feel you would do it all again or do you think you could have saved a ton of money by doing the free dining when it is available or by renting points?
I don't know if I would "do it all over again" at the current cost/point, but at the price point we bought in at, we are quite happy. We definitely come out ahead in the long run v. free dining or renting points. We might buy in, but own less points.[/QUOTE]
