ONLY PROBLEM IS WE ARE PLANNING TO STAY TWO MORE NIGHTS AND WANT TO STAY SOMEWHERE NICE (AS THERE WERE NO MORE ROOMS AVAILABLE FOR THE LAST TWO NIGHTS AT HRH) SO, ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHERE TO FINISH UP OUR STAY?? (WE ARE PLANNING TO SPEND MOST OF OUR TIME AT USF, IOF AND POSSIBLY SEAWORLD) <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused">

Hi Melisa,
If you are staying at the HRH at the beginning of your trip, and planning on doing Sea World, stay at a hotel close to Sea World for your last 2 nights. The Renaissance looks nice, it's located behind Sea World. Do a search to see if you can find any more info on that hotel. (You may not like any place as well as HRH...)
Anyway, Sea World was really great. Just one thing to remember: You will not wait in any line while at IOA/Universal. You will have to wait in lines at Sea World. But, if you have 2 days to tour Sea World, you will be able to do it all. Have fun!

The Renaissance Orlando Resort near SeaWorld IS nice, check out their site, but NOT cheap.

On Kirkman Rd the Radisson Universal is a nice, though conservative hotel. I stayed there on my very first trip to Orlando and truly enjoyed it.

After HRH anything else near Universal Orlando is going to seem like a letdown.

The Renaissance Orlando Resort across from the main entrance to SeaWorld is very nice. Call 800-468-3571 or 407-351-5555.

Try the Sheraton Studio City about 1/2 mile from Universal. I've stayed several times and always enjoyed it! It's an ordinary room, nothing too special, but the hotel is a large tower with great views, a good location, and cool movie theming. www.grandthemehotels.com I believe rates start at around $79-100/night. As Kelly said nothing will compare to the onsite resorts, but this one is nice at a reasonable rate (free shuttle to parks too!).

The Red Roof [$65. a night in peak season] off Kirkman on Major is great!!!!!!
IF you want to stay at a CLOSE,safe,Curtious,Inexpensive Hotel this one was great!! The rooms are on an inside corridor, they were roomy and very clean. THE staff was Friendly and Worked Over time to make sure we had everything we needed!!!

AND the front of the Red Roof is exactly across the road from an Entrance to Universal!!! I couldn't believe we were so close!!![you can't get this close to WDW!!!] ;)

We will be in Universal for 8 days in October. HRH for the first 4 days then moving to Portofino Bay for day 5 as the Hard Rock was booked. It'll be nice to visit both hotels so I can compare them for myself and we still have FOTL access. Our last 3 nights will be spent at the Dolphin. We are using Entertainment and Teacher rates for our rooms.

Thanks for all the suggestions!! By the way, I tried Portofino Bay--no luck! Maybe it's because I'm needing 3 rooms-I don't know? Also looking into Swan & Dolphin but would really like to be in the Universal area so I'll check into some of the suggestions from here!! ;)

Don't forget to check back with HRH periodically. They may have cancellations that would work for you if you have a cancellable reservation elsewhere for the nights you need.

Hard Rock Hotel 4/01
Wyndham Palace 7/00
Port Orleans & DCL 12/00
Disneyland Paris 4/99
AllStar Sports 2/98

I would book somewhere like the Rennassaince that will allow you to cancel up till the day of your stay.

Don't forget that when you get to HRH, tell them that you really want to extend your stay 2 more nights. Go up to the front desk once in the morning and once at night each day during your entire stay. If they let you extend, you will be able to extend at your current rate.

They will let you extend as long as they have a room available which is very possible that there will be a cancellation.

By the way, what are the exact dates that you are unable to get??

We thought it was really nice. about $100 (maybe less in October) for a suite. It is next door to Sea World and had a very nice pool area.
