In order to cut down costs on one of my favorite apps I buy at Trader Joes, I am trying to make my own and need phlo dough. trouble is, I can't find it! I've looked at Kroger, Food Lion, and Farm Fresh.

So where do I find this magical mystery treat?!

If I'm thinking of the correct thing it is in the freezer section at any grocery store. Near the frozen desserts.

yep should be in the dessert freezer section. Brand our stores carry comes in a yellow a blue box about 12" long and 3" wide

See, and that's where I look...every single visit and I NEVER see it. argh, it's so discouraging!
What grocery stores do you have in your areas? Heading up to NY for Thanksgiving and I can head over to Stop & Shop to check it out.

I buy it at shoprite, but I expect that any grocery store here would carry it.

We shop at Publix but Kroger in our area has it as well.

You know, on a whim I decided to try shopping online for it through Farm Fresh and they have it! A bunch of different kinds including Athens and Pepperidge Farms!

I must have the worst eyesight because I have NEVER found it and I scour all over. Thaks everyone for reaffirming the area I need to look in! :thumbsup2

It's actually phyllo, two L's, and if you are asking for it, tell them it's the stuff for baklava -- that's how most people are familiar with it. There is one brand, Athens, that spells it "Fillo". Like others have said, the package looks rather like a box of spaghetti, a long narrow rectangle.

Phyllo comes frozen and rolled into a log with plastic film, and it can be kind of pricey if your store doesn't sell a lot of it. I've seen it priced anywhere from $2.50 - 5.00 per pkg. IME, you pretty much have to use the entire box at once.

Can't you use Puffed Pastry and get a similar effect? That is all over the place. Even Pillsbury makes one that I use all the time for my appetizers.

Oh and I have seen the Athens brand in a red box and for some strange reason they label it Fillo dough??? But it's the same stuff as Phyllo I think.

I hope you find it, and I hate to hijack the thread, but what sort of appetizers do you make with this (or puff pastry)? I'd love some ideas! :)

stop & shop carries it (well, they did last time I needed it :) )

My BFF makes the BEST baklava, she gets her Phyllo at Safeway in the frozen foods section. :)
