when they visit WDW for weekends? Please post for ideas for us newbies.

(assuming you are not the lucky ones who live within an hour or less!).

We live in Clermont now,so it's just 25 min.ride for us,but, when we lived in Miami we would stay in the All Stars(music, sports) resorts- in season. Off season,we would try to get into the moderate resorts. And, if nothing is available, it's off to mom & dads, who are 1 1/2 hrs. Away! If you don't want to stay on- site, look around the areas- even by Downtown Disney- for a hotel. I hope this helps!

last trip we stayed at wyndham, right next to DTD. Was great weekend and a good price, but wanting newer rooms. It's getting old there.

We live two hours away, and we stay on site. If we have to, we'll stay at a Downtown Disney hotel, but I prefer the "feel" of staying on WDW property.

On site for us too. We live about an hour away but try and do a lot of two night weekend stays throughout the year - and we like to stay at a different resort each night (well I like to, DH could care less ;)). Though split stays are pretty easy when we already have our car there and have only one small carry on bag for the two of us. :cutie:

Circa 10 minutes door to Disney property for us.

Friends travelling with grandparents and kids hire a vacation home when coming down from the Panhandle.

We live about 40 minutes away. Have only lived here since April but are looking forward totrying the Caribbean and Poly.

I live 25 miles away for half the year. This January I'm staying at the Bay Lake Towers for a week.

We live about an hour away. We always stay on property, usually at a moderate resort. We recently bought a popup camper so we are going to try camping at Fort Widerness.

I go way too frequently to shell out the money to stay onsite everytime so most of my trips I get a room through Hotwire or Travelocity secret hotels for low rates, usually in the Lake Buena Vista area and International Drive south/Convention center area.

For longer trips we like Coronado Springs. Though I am itching to convince DH we need to stay at DVC.

For weekend trips (IN 10 DAYS!!!), we tend to stay at whereever we can get a deal. The Florida resident rates at All Stars is where we are staying this time.

I typically stay at the Swan or Dolphin. Love being able to walk to DHS or Epcot and not having to wait for bus. :)

Wanting to try this. But it's dcs and I. Some things i googled and read said that the rooms have ONE BED 90% of the time.

is this true?

I use Hotwire/Travelocity all the time. We usually have 2 Adults and 2 Children and have always received 2 beds for our stay.

When we lived in Tampa we would drive over for the day. Use our DVC points. Get Florida resident discount. Get military discount. Rent condos off site. Rent rooms off site. We did it all. :)

No way,it's Orlando, the rooms are geared to families,I've been given rooms with double beds like 98% of the time. Also since the 2 or 3 times that I was given a single bed I now call the hotel ahead of time to make sure it's a room with two beds and I haven't had a problem.I think I've stayed at like 65%-70% of the hotels in the I-Drive and LBV area over the years and there's obviously some hotels that you get that are better than others and it's a bit tricky to figure out and cross your fingers you get the room you were expecting to get, sometimes you're happy with it,sometimes you're dissapointed. For example I recently got that Orlando Vista hotel outside Hotel Plaza blvd by Downtown Disney, you know the one with the pineapples and painted different colors.I honestly was underwhelmed by the hotel overall,it was older than I expected and probably got that 3 star rating by being so close to DTD.I never get any hotel lower than 2.5 stars and stick to Hotwire and Travelocity secret hotels,I tried Priceline with their name your own price thing and didn't like it.I would look up possible hotels on betterbidding.com and they would always "upgrade" me to a higher star hotel that I thought was worse than the hotel I thought I would get with the lower stars. Also with Hotwire and Travelocity secret hotels you can look for hotels with breakfast and certain amenities.
