Where do DVCers vacation … outside of DVC?

Going on our first trip ‘out west’ next week … Whitefish/Bozeman/Jackson Hole … Disney and Beach people so this will be something way outside our usual vacation!

My son and I checked into Club Wyndham Canterbury in San Francisco last night. For an urban location, the 1BR is a decent size, though the layout of the bedroom is a little odd. It is an easy walk to Union Square, close to BART, most main MUNI lines, and the Powell Street cable cars.

We took a walk around the area last night, and just missed a street festival in Chinatown unfortunately, but it was gorgeous just the same. Headed over to Berkeley today to walk around the campus--i was an undergrad there, but he's never been.

For us, we like Chatham, MA and Kennebunkport, ME. (Also Hilton Head but that’s covered by DVC).
Since the last time I posted I've been to Chatham and now I can definitely see why you like it. I just want to let anyone thinking of Cape Cod for a vacation know that if they want to be in the busier part, more touristy, min-golf etc., go in or before South Yarmouth. For nature, fewer people, head towards Harwichport or Chatham.

Our main non-DVC destination has always been a cruise ship. Have done 50+, with six more scheduled. There are still a number of places we would like to go... Australia, Baltics, transpacific...

So we do at least one camping trip with our RV that is in driving distance of Colorado... so we have hit up a lot of the cool western national parks including yellowstone, tetons, Rocky Mountain national park, etc... or hit up the jellystone rv resorts in Colorado which are soo fun.

Then we go see my husband's family in Northern Va... so we hit up DC attractions or go down to VA Beach and do Bush gardens and willisamburg too.

My parents live in a great mountain house in Keystone, CO. Like right on Keystone Golf course. Soo we go on "vacation" at a great colorado ski resort for our local mini vacations all the time... we are very spoiled to have xmas 🎄 up there.

We go to DW and stay at the Poly every other February. 2025 is my off-Disney year so I have been trying to plan something to get out of the midwest cold. Thinking of doing an all-inclusive in Punta Cana....and then stopping back in Orlando for a couple of days to do Universal as a consolation prize 🙃

We just arrived back home from a vacation in Corfu, Greece.

Besides from WDW, wife and I did NYC in May.

In September we visit Disney and Marco Island

We live in the UK so we go to Spain, Greece, The Canary Islands when not in the UK.

That's a lot of cruises. My wife and I like to cruise but usually closer to once a year, for a week or so each time. So you've got me curious:

- Which is your favorite cruise line? Does it change significantly depending on where you're cruising (western/eastern/northern/southern hemisphere) or what you're cruising (rivers, oceans)?
- What's your average cruise length?

It has changed over time. Most of the 50+ have been on Royal Caribbean, great cruise line when we had younger kids. Now that the kids are older and its more often just my DW and I, we gravitate towards Celebrity. Now we are looking to Oceania or Silversea for a smaller ship/less passenger experience. If its the kids/grandkids, its probably still Royal. We would love to do Disney but, TBH, the price is just too high.

The length has also changed. When I was working, 7 days was about all I could muster at a time. Now, being retired, longer is better. Our longest to date has been 16 days, but we have an 18 day cruise to Hawaii next year and a 14 day Transatlantic next Fall.

We have never done a river cruise -- yet. The one I want to do is the Christmas Markets cruise on the Rheine.

Favorite so far has undoubtedly been last years cruise to the Norwegian Fjords -- spectacular.

DW and I have a Norwegian Fjords cruise on our list as well. The one that both excites us and worries us a bit (what would we be signing up for?) is one of the 50-to-100-day cruises. We'll probably need to work our way up to that (and retire, for that matter, to get that much time available). I'd love to do an extended cruise of the South Pacific. She'd love to do an extended cruise of Europe. So many places to go.

I would love to try a really long one, but with kids, grandkids and cats, my DW will never go for it.

One of our bucket list cruises is a 32-day from Amsterdam to NY on Viking. Visits Norway -- all the way to Svalbard -- Iceland, Greenland, Canada.

If you like DVC you have great taste! So, where are you vacationing when you’re not using your points at Disney? I bet we all have a lot of similar interests since we have DVC in common - let’s recommend some other great places to vacation (even though nothing can compare to Disney!)

For us, we like Chatham, MA and Kennebunkport, ME. (Also Hilton Head but that’s covered by DVC).
Used to be Block Island (family had a home). Italy, New England, California, Savannah, Charleston.
