Where did you see World of Color? Rate your section!

We had preferred dining also. If you look at the last picture posted by S.S. Columbia - we sat at the top of those roped off stairs until the show started. We did get wet.

Where in the viewing area was that rail? I think part of what is trying to be determined here is, "Is the blue section always in the same place?"

Were you in the area that's blue on chart that Brenda1966 posted? never2muchdisney also mentioned having blue, but being on the bridge.

- Dreams

There are two sections for blue: the bridge and the section that Brenda1966 posted. We were not on the bridge. See the "X" in her picture? It's on a drawn-in yellow line. Follow that line, and we were on that rail. If you get blue, you have to option of the bridge or this viewing area. The bridge has all unobstructed views but is slightly farther away.

The first night we were in yellow with a regular fast pass in the third tier. We were all the way to the center against the rail. The second night was blue picnic and that was great--wet zone up the first set of stairs, you see the little box platform by the rail (second box in) that's where we were. I honestly think the show leans more to the blue section. Didn't get wet at all, it was a little misty. There's more details in my trip report on both nights.

1) Where you saw the show from - Blue section: Wet Zone
2) Whether it was a fastpass, picnic or preferred dining area - picnic
3) What color your section was the night you saw the show (and the other sections if you know) - Blue
4) Where you lined up for your section
5) Whether you got soaked, a little wet or stayed dry: Stayed dry
6) How the view was, would you watch it from there again? The kids were able to sit in front of the dry section railing so they were higher, but we really couldn't see. We were too low. I wouldn't stand here again, and definitely wouldn't line up almost 2 hours in advance for cruddy spots. The Dry section above us was full by the time we arrived at 7:15.

We were directly in front of brenda1966's X in the Wet Zone.

I'm so confused :confused3

We have reserved picnics. Based on that, what color fastpass will we be getting? Hopefully that will allow me to figure out where we should aim to sit. We'd rather not get wet, but a little damp is ok!

Based on the picture I posted above, picnics get yellow or blue. I would aim for the dry zone up against the rail...but that requires lining up around 6:30 for the 9:00 show.

I found this arial view in a display in the Blue Sky Cellar. I took a picture through the glass display. I added a lot of information to the basic photo.

NOTES
Viewing Areas

1) You can see the entire show from any spot.
2) To get the full 3D effect you need to be near the centerline.
3) The best spots are at the front of each section at the rail.
4) To get a spot at the rail in any lower section you need to line up 1/2 hour before the time on the Fastpass.
5) The boardwalk 1 WET Zones for Red & Yellow will give you an unobstructed view. However, the Front Screen is sharper looking further back.
6) I have marked the best spots for each section with 1. (MY opinion only)
7) I have marked good spots for each section with 2. (My opinion only)
8) You can get a spot on the top level in each section with a bench. However, If Handicapped is overflowed they will ask you to give up a bench seat.
9) The BEST location in my opinion, is in the Preferred Dining (PD) section on the next to top level about 10-20 feet from the walkway. SECRET: This area is ignored by the early crowd rushing to the front of the lower level, and you can get there 15 minutes after the early time listed on the Fastpass.
10) The Best Location for Blue is to enter and go halfway down then back up the next level. Stand next to the VIP Section and get a great overall view. This area also doesn't fill in early and you sholud not have to fight for this other SECRET spot.
11) The spots marked 2 gives you a good view.
12) The two spots marked "B" (Bad) have problems viewing over people or obstructions.
13) If you get a good spot at the rail, near the show time rude people appear and will try to push themselves or children in front of you. If you move 6" to one side this will give them an opening.
14) If there are nice people in your area with kids, and you are tall and at the rail, ask them to stand in front of you because it is difficult to see for Kids or short people behind others. You both will feel good.
15) For kids and those that like corny fun singalongs and large puppets the 1st show has a cute 15 minute preshow.
16) To get into the VIP section you need to have a Sr. DLR Manager add your name to the list. There are no Fastpasses.
17) Have fun and enjoy the show...

Ok Disneyland 1951 - On this picture - is the secret #1 blue spot you are talking about BEHIND those green arch looking things in this picture? In the part of the sidewalk that is not colored on this picture. I'm guessing VIP is that bench section under the trees...

In this spot are you not blocked by people's heads? I am not as concerned with the optimum view but rather not being blocked by heads.

I am just trying to get my strategy ready for each color FP I might get!! :)

Thanks!! And great map by the way! ;)

My Secret Blue spot is on the level above the green arch to the left, it actually looks through the VIP section that is never used. You are evelated above everyone. Actually it is a few feet from the very top to avoid the Lamp post and the Brown structure. The brown structure is about 4' tall and can be seen over by anyone but kids The Brown structure is used by the Pre-Show staff to plug in their computers, and see everything.

You are 5-6 feet above the lower level heads.... standing next to the SR. Staff monitoring the VIP secton and the Show.

OK so I see a lamp post and a brown thing that have a yellow fire hydrant in the middle - is that where you are talking about? If I am facing the show, where should I be in relation to the post and brown thing (assuming that's the right brown thing!?).... Will I be looking through the corner of the VIP section?

I am planning to get there before 7pm, do you think this is still the best blue spot?

This now not so SECRET spot gives you a nearly unobstructed view of the show.

How to get there: While others are pushing and running to the lower rail spots, casually hand the Fastpass to the Castmember at the entrance, take one giant step forward and duck under the rope to your right and take two giant steps forward to the rail. Or, you can follow the path down about 30', make a right 180 and go back up to where you started near the entrance. You are about 5' from the cast members taking Fastpasses and where a Plaid is usually standing with the VIP List. You can watch the panic and stupid questions that the Cast gets.

It is great fun talking with the SR. Cast Members about the KAOS going on down below, you can ask the very friendly Cast what VIP's are scheduled, laugh with them about the fools in the lower class, and not have people pushing and shoving you to get to the SECRET spot. This will befriend you with the Cast members and they will allow you to get something to eat, go to the bathroom and happily wave you back in without going back through the line.

At the end of the Show you will be at the VERY FRONT of the que to leave and avoid being hearded with 4,000 others to the exit. You are first in line at the EXIT.

Bummers: During the 15 minute pre-show the Stage Manager for the show who is allowed the best possible view, will open a gate to the planter in front of you and plug in a laptop computer to direct the show, with several other staff. But will leave at the end of the Pre-show and return the best possible view unobstructed again. During the last 20 minutes before the show the latecomers will see that the lower levels are full with guests and possibly try to push you out of your spot. This can be avoided by making friends in the area while you laugh at the other fools below you, and the Sr. Cast members will keep the riff raff away from their BEST Friend (YOU).

... do you think this is still the best blue spot?

Saturday, July 24 (11:15pm show) [No Spoilers!]

1) In front of the "VIP Section" (labelled "BEST" in DL_1951's map)
2) FastPass
3) Blue section
4) We got in line in front of the WCT restaurant (sort of)
5) 99.999 % dry
6) The view was good, although someone in the "circle" area held a 10-year-old (I'm guessing) on their shoulders, and the view of the center water screen was slightly blocked. (See photos below)

We saw the 11:15pm show last night. We enjoyed the show!

Long story short: We got Blue FPs at 1:05pm. We got in line at 10:12pm (the FP said to return between 10:15 & 10:45pm), and we were able to get a spot on the rail that's in front of the "VIP Section" (just barely, but we did). IMO the view from the front rail in the preferred section (that section is called "Blue" for the 11:15 show) is better than the view from in front of the VIP Section.

Here are some details.

At 1:05pm there were 3 FP machines giving out WOC FPs, and the rest of the FP machines were giving out GRR FPs. (BTW, the GRR FP machines are still "connected" to the other FP machines -- at least it was the one time that I checked.)

The CM did not want the entire group going through the line for WOC FPs. The CM wanted one person holding everyone's tickets -- he said it was easier if there was only one person in line. I asked the CM if the WOC FP colors are distributed in order (Blue, Yellow, and Red), and he said "yes" and repeated back the order (Blue, Yellow, and Red). There's a CM at each FP machine; you hand the CM your tickets, and the CM deals with the FP machine and hands you the WOC FPs.

At 1:05pm they were distributing Blue FPs for the 11:15pm show.

Here's a photo of our FPs:

100724186.jpg

After watching the 9:05 Fantasmic and fireworks, (and after picking up a package at the Star Trader in TL), we entered DCA, walked past Sunshine Plaza and walked toward the WCT. At 10:12pm the end of the line for the Blue FPs was approximately 75 feet before the "a bug's land" sign. (I asked some people who were in line. The first person didn't know the color of his FP, but the second person said that the line was for Blue.) The line went all the way to WCT and then some. When we got to the front of WCT the CMs looked at our FPs (but did not take them). The line stopped and we waited in front of the WCT area. We could see the 10:15 show from where we were waiting, but it was so far away it didn't seem like it would be a "spoiler." The 10:15pm show ended around 10:41.

Here's a photo from where we waited. This photo was taken at 10:43pm, as the audience from the 10:15 show started to exit and walk past:

100724190.jpg

It took a while for many of the guests from the 10:15pm show to walk by. At 10:57 the line started to move and we eventually handed a CM our FPs. In DL_1951's map (see below) we entered the viewing area at the Blue Arrow; we turned right and walked under the trellis (or arbor) and we just managed to get a spot at the rail that's in front of the "VIP Section" -- where DL_1951 wrote "BEST." (During our show, I think there were only 6 people in the VIP Section.)

WOCJuly2010B.jpg

IMO there are a couple of effects that can only be seen from the back (at least I didn't notice the effects when I watched the show at the front railing in the preferred section a couple of nights before).

IMO if you want a center view, and you don't want to have ANY one in your view, then you will have to be at the railing in the Red or Yellow Wet Zone. IMO unless you're standing at a front rail in the Wet Zone you have to expect to have some people in part of your view.

Here's a photo of our view, taken just a minute before the 11:15 show started:

100724197.jpg

And here are a few photos of the show: (You can see the 10-year-old (?) who's sitting on someone's shoulders in the "circle" area.)

SPOILER ALERT: The following link shows an image on the water screen from the show.

Just finished reading this thread and I am curious if you can see the bottom of the entire display from the "best" spot?

Jack

You will not see the bottom 5-10' of the 30-100' high fountains in front of the front screen. You can see the bottom of the front screen.

But will see everything else clearly.

To see everything you must get wet...

I have the same question because it looks like you cannot see the water/lagoon part in those photos. You could see the water that sprays up, but not the ground level water, if that makes sense.

Oh, and how annoying to have that one kid in the center of your view! Hate that. We were lucky we didn't have any obstruction like that.

ETA: I would disagree that you have to get wet to see the bottom of the water. From our space we could see the base of the fountains and we only get a bit of misting.

We did the 2nd show on July 21st with the dining meal. Originally we were not going to go straight to the line but because my DD was having severe pain from standing we decided to go ahead. We were the first in our line which was for the Premium Viewing Handicapped. This allowed her to have a bench to sit on while we waited to be walked to our section. I was actually amazed at how orderly it was and how well the CMs handled my DD. When we were taken to the entrance for the pier another CM walked us over to the benches int he front HC area of blue/Premium and we easily had a bench for her to sit on for the show.

The nice thing was that because it was the 2nd showing there were less people in this section. My guess is maybe a dozen or so, which gave us plenty of room and a seat for practically everyone in the area. However, because there is standing sections in front of the HC area there was some blocking from fountains down low. For myself it was not really a problem until someone decided to hoist their child on their shoulders. What frustrated me more is the CM who continually walked by this person and did nothing. Seems they should have been asking people not to do this. My DD did have to sit on her legs on the bench to see a bit more which caused more pain - but she says she would do it again. :scared1:

I am not sure I would give up 3 plus hours again for this show but overall it was enjoyable. I do think there are more kinks to work out so that it does not feel quite so much like cattle being pushed into a pen. :rotfl:
