Where exactly is Capn Jack's?
Where exactly is Capn Jack's?
Downtown Disney
\Specifically, it is at the far side of DTD Marketplace near the Rainforest Cafe.
You're in NY, right (by your poster info).....Boston is MUCH closer...heck, MAINE is much closer...if hubby is craving good lobster.
Though, if YOU are looking for a reason to convince DH to book a trip.....best not to point that out.
As the wife of a lobster fisherman, I strongly encourage everyone to eat as much lobster as you can, LOL! Increase in consumption, means increase in demand, which means increase in the price the lobstermen get, which means increase in my WDW budget!!!

the lobster tails at Captain Jacks. If you go during "free Dining" if its offered make sure you get a reservation. This place fill up quick.
If they offer free dining again, don't expect to see lobster on the menu any place at WDW. They take off the really pricey items during that time.
Really? Wow. I've read glowing reviews about the lobster at Captain Jack's and Narcoossee's, and I've never heard anyone mention that it wasn't available for purchase last August and September. I didn't realize that when free dining is offered at WDW, the restaurants actually go through their menus and take off the "pricey" items. The lobster isn't an issue for us (DH has a shellfish allergy and I just don't care for it), and we aren't getting free dining or even going when it's offered, we are paying for the DDP. But since the it's already being offered for free this year to certain guests (UK visitors and those "bounce back" folks who were there in December), people might like to know if certain items will be removed from menus during their visit.![]()
What else besides lobster is totally removed from menus? Certain steaks, maybe filet? How do they define a "pricey" item? And these items are completely taken off the menus so no one can order them, not even guests who are paying OOP? That seems a bit extreme, doesn't it -- seems like they could just exclude certain entrees from the DDP if a restaurant decides they are too costly to serve for what Disney will pay.![]()

That has happened in other places that I know of (namely certain appetizers from Jiko). Yes, they're completely taken off the menu. Don't know about Cap'n Jacks. It's not historically a busy place. Looks like it's getting a bit of an uplift from this thread.
I don't think the Brits and the bounceback diners are going to be enough to put things over the edge in the restaurants, and if the free dining is offered to the general public it looks as if it may be a more limited time frame than last year, so it might work out differently this time.
