We are going in a couple of weeks to Universal and staying at RPH. My dh is a vegan and I am looking for places where he can eat. I am more concerned about places in the park to eat, as when we went last time, we had alot of trouble finding him anything! He gets really grumpy if he can't find food for him (can't blame him), so to keep my hubby happy, please help!

I'm not sure about Universal - I've never been there. You can try looking here: http://www.allearsnet.com/din/dining.htm

Scroll down, and on the menu on the left-hand side there are several links for vegetarians, under the heading, "Special Dietary Needs - Vegetarian/Vegan." That may just be Disney-specific, though.

I also think the guidebook, "Vegetarian Walt Disney World and Greater Orlando" is a great resource - it's second edition was just released last year. I have a copy at home, and I'll try to check later today for any advice about Universal.

I found that most places were willing to alter menu items for me (veggie, not vegan) - but they still had no problems, even offering to add more of other items to make up for the ones I asked be left out.

The Portofino Bay Hotel has Italian resturants, which can be vegan friendly, be sure to take the boat over & check it out!!

Good luck!! :flower1:

I checked the Vegetarian WDW and Greater Orlando, which I would still recommend if your husband will be going back. It seems to have pretty good advice.

Anyway, vegan options are fairly limited. The recommended vegan options at Islands of Adventure are:

Confisco Grille - Explorer's Vegetable Pizza without Feta andConfisco Fries platter
Port of Entry Fruit Stand - fruit and juice
Mythos - call ahead, but expect an eggless-pasta dish or cheeseless pizza

Also the Croissant Moon Bakery's peasant bread is vegan, and you can get a peanut butter and jelley sandwich. Cafe 4's pizza can be made without cheese. Blondie's has vegan bread for sandwiches (the Pullman loaf and the peasant bread).

At Universal Studios, they recommend:

Beverly Hills Boulangerie - the Health Sandwich on a vegan hogie.
Lombard's Seafood Grill - the California Dream Fruit Plate, or ask for linguini (from the kids' menu) with pesto. The portobello mushroom appetizer is also vegan.
Carmen's Veranda Fruit Stand - for, well, fruit and juice.

You can also try a really good vegan pizza at the Classic Monster Cafe, or get vegan pasta with marinara sauce at the International Food and Film Festival.

Well, that looks like it, and it's pretty meager. Lettuce seems to be available all over, but most stuff you think would be vegan has been prepared with chicken stock or had bacon added. It's really bizarre. Disney is certainly a lot easier to find veggie and vegan options. I'm planning to go to Islands of Adventure for the first time in February, but the options for ovo-lacto vegetarians are a little easier.

Also, if you like this advice, please consider buying the book. I feel a little bad about posting their information here.

Thanks for the replies! I do actually own the book you are talking about (love it!) and I used it last Feb. (2004) for our trip, but I found that the counter services menus were already changed from what the book said they were.

I do agree that it is hard for a vegan to find food to eat inside the parks at US/IOA.

My dh does like veggie burgers and last time after searching across the park found them at Richter's. Does anyone know if they still have the veggie burgers there? Also, where else might they have veggie burgers?

Thanks!

Yes, they still have the "garden" burgers at Richters. They are called "The Fault Line" and they are served with fries. It costs around $7.

Veggie burgers are also available at the Burger Digs in IOA.

Though I would revive this thread. My wife is a vegetarian and we're arriving this Thursday. Anyone else have vegetarian dining knowledge for USF?

I know that the HRC has a veggie sandwich.

I think just about anyplace, if you ask, will make a veggie sandwich. They all pretty much have the veggies (lettuce, onion, tomato, etc.).

Alot of places have the veggie patties also. Chack out the above links and check out the menus.

For vegetarians...

Both parks have soft pretzels, fresh fruit, ice cream, etc. available through-out the parks.

If I forgot something, added something that no longer exists, etc., please feel free to let me know. :)
