Where can I find an ashtray?

I did think about that. I just took the kids on Thursday to make a cookie jar for Grandma. That was their cut-off for stuff to be ready for Christmas. But, if I can find a cheapo one somewhere, I may get that and then let the kids go back and make one for him later on.

That would be nice - maybe for father's day or something. :)

If you have a dremmel tool, with a really finnnnne attachment - and a very low setting - that would work perfect. Very little pressure.... :thumbsup2

Im telling you - youll be suprised with the selection at the thrift store.

Do you remember what part of the store it was in? I asked at my Walmart, and they said they didn't carry them. Of course, that doesn't mean the person knew what they were talking about. :sad2:

Believe it or not, kitchen gadgets:rotfl: They were between the colanders and measuring cups! Oh, and mine told me they didn't carry them either. Lo and behold, there they were. Good luck on your search. If you can't find them there, check out the local smoke/tobacco shops. They always have some fun ones, tho they can be a bit pricier.

ETA: Try to stay away from a glass ashtray. If it is cold where you live, the cold glass will crack when the heat from the cigars or cigarettes gets to it. I had one literally explode on my deck.

I have never bought an ashtray:confused3 I have swiped so many from hotel rooms over the years that I have quite an inventory:rotfl: Yep, I said it...I have stolen ashtrays from hotel rooms, I consider them souvenirs;)

We have a grocery store, Market Basket/DeMoulas around here and I saw them there the other day. They were located w/ the light bulbs and plugs etc.

If I had to bet money on it I would say my mom probably has a box full of ashtrays in her storage unit. She never smoked, but my father did. They got divorced, but I am willing to bet she still has ashtrays packed in a box somewhere!

I second the thrift stores. I prop shop at thrift stores all the time. You will have NO problem find ashtrays of all varieties there.

I've seen them in Kmart near the ketchup/mustard/olive oil dispensers, salt & pepper shakers, etc.

I agree that your best bet will be to look in thrift stores or "antique" shops. We used to have a few for when the in-laws visited, but now I just hand them tin cans to take outside and put their butts into, then toss the whole thing when they leave.

You could also use a nice outdoor flower pot (you can get plastic or metal ones in the Dollar Store) and fill it with sand or kitty litter..

FOUND ONE!! Thanks to the poster who suggested looking by the colanders and measuring cups. I had to run to Target again, so I checked there, and lo and behold, there they were - even had one made for cigars.

I did look at a thrift shop on the way there. They did have a bunch, but they were all made for cigarettes and were just too small.

YAY! Christmas shopping is now officially done!
