Where can I buy sea bands?

Reading through my Passporter's Guide to DCL (awesome book by the way) and one of the suggestions for sea sickness is something called a sea band. An elastic type band that you wear around your wrist. I am wondering if any of you have purchased these and can tell me in what type of store I should look for them.

We live in land locked Idaho, so I don't think I'll find them around here, but maybe in the Port Canaveral area before boarding?

I found my at a Walgreen's drugstore in our hometown, as I recall. There is a Walgreen's in Cocoa Beach, but I don't know for sure whether they carry the bands.

You should be able to buy them at any scuba dive shop (even in Idaho...I live in Utah...and we could buy them) and also if you cant find them and are really desperate usually the ships sell them in one of the gift shops but they are pretty pricey. My suggestion unless you cant take medicine or it will interact with medicine or you dont like to take pills is Meclizine. It is the same ingredient in Bonine or Dramamine 2 and you can buy it over the counter usually from a pharmacy at any Walmart or Walgreens type stores. Sometimes they do have to order it but you could always check. If you do decide to go that route and I see you are leaving in 8 days I would suggest that you start taking them in the next day or two to get them into your system and make sure you arent allergic. The problem we found with the wrist bands that our pressure point is WAY too deep for those button things to work on either me or my husband. The Meclizine we found if we took one every morning when we got out of bed we didnt need anything else the rest of the day (and I get car sick driving to the grocery store) I have heard Benadryl helps too but havent tried it. You could look for the relief bands at scuba places around Idaho and call around to find some. You could even try a Target or a Walmart (but I dont know if they have them)

You can get them at WalMart, but you have to ask for them. They keep them behind the counter at the pharmacy, and usually only a couple of them. They will order them for you. They come for me the next day or two. My son uses them in the car, he gets VERY car sick, and they work great for him.

I swear by the prescription patch that you wear behind your ear. If you look around on your cruise MANY people have them. I only get a little dry mouth but not an ounce of seasickness. On our most recent cruise, we had rough seas for the first night and I didn't get sick (amazing since I get woozy going over hills in a car).

I will get on the phone to my local Walgreens and Walmart stores right away. If all else fails, I'll see if we have a Scuba diving store in town. Thanks again everyone! You have all been a huge help.

I have friends who lived in Boise who dove. When we would visit them to get ready to go diving there were 2 dive stores that we would go too....

Boise Water Sports. They are on Orchard Street about 2400 South I think

The other one if I remember correctly (looking for receipts) but I think it was called Omni Divers Underwater but I cant remember where they were located. I do have a phone number (it might still work) 208-345-1990.

There is another one listed on the internet called
Dive Magic. Their phone number is 208-733-8203 and it says they are at 2350 Vista Ave in Boise.

I have a question about the seasickness medications.


If you take them, are you aloud to have an alchoholic drink once in a while?


I do not know anything about these medications because I have never needed them before. My sister who used to work on a cruise ship said she didn't think I would have a problem because of the size of the Magic. But I want to get something just in case. I also would like to have a drink now and then.

Are the bracelets you are all talking about better for that reason?

We have taken Meclizine on our last 3 cruises and have drank alcohol with them and havent had any problems. I think Dramamine says not to drink alcohol with them but I asked the pharmacist at the Walmart where we got it (and also the ship doctor on NCL when I first learned of these pills AFTER having a SEVERE reaction to the patch and spent the first 3 days of my 7 day cruise sick as a dog) and both the doctor and the Walmart pharmacist said no problem with alcohol and meclizine. I do know that alcohol is NOT wise to drink if you wear the patch. They have it written on their website. The meclizine website
http://www.meclizine.com does NOT list alcohol as something that should be avoided. The patch or transderm scop also warns of drinking alcohol with it. Their website it

It is best to ask your doctor what is best for you and your situation but for us we have had our doctor at home, a doctor on the NCL ship who gave it to us and the walmart pharmacist all tell us it was safe to drink alcohol with meclizine!

They sell them on the ship in the gift shop. They worked very well for me! I think they were $11 for a set of two.
