Where can I buy nebulizer parts?

DD had a bad cold which has led to complications with her asthma. Dr. has her doing the nebulizer 4x per day with two different meds. Unfortunately the part that holds the medicine went down the garbage disposal tonight and is now ruined. We need to find a replacement asap but cannot find one. Drug store/pharmacy does not carry it. Dr. office is closed until Monday. Most medical supply stores are closed until Monday. I am really upset as the dr. told us on Thursday that she was on the verge of needing hospitalization. She cannot afford to miss these treatments. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I plan to call our doctor's emergency line tomorrow but would love to avoid that phone call if possible. TIA!

I would call an urgent care center in your area and explain your situation and see if they can help. With all the stores closed I really don't know what you can do, sorry.

Are you SURE they don't have it, or they don't have it without a prescription?

It's funny you posted this... I had this happen on Christmas Eve a few years ago (I actually boiled it too long, after a use, and it melted :sad2: )

I brought the parts into Walgreen's and basically begged them. They were not to do it without a prescription, but with my DR's name, and info - they made an exception, and said they'd call him when his office opened, to get it.

Do you have an ER close by? They can help. Does she have inhalers in place of nebulizing? If not you need to make sure she is getting the meds she needs before tomorrow. Call your doctors service he can tell you what to do tonight.

Hope your daughter feels better.

They just told me they don't have it. I will definitely try tomorrow. We don't actually have any urgent care locations. Our only other option would be the emergency room. I hate the idea of going there just b/c of this. Thanks to both of you for the advice.

Thanks! She has a maintenance inhaler she uses twice a day. She does have a rescue inhaler in case of emergency. I think I will call the doctor now. I feel terrible bothering him but looks like I need to.

You know what though, that's what they get the big bucks, for.

He can probably call into a pharmacy, and you can pick it up.

OR - another thought - call the ER, explain your situation, and ask if you can't purchase it from their pharmacy. Their internal pharmacy (should be) 24 hours, y'know?

Good luck. I wouldn't wait. Asthma keeps building up if not treated - the inflammation won't just go away on it's own.

Yep, call urgent care places or an ER, explain your desperation, and see if they can help you without having to see your daughter. Or if you are really desperate and they won't just give or sell you a tubing kit, then take her in to be seen and assessed, and they will probably give or sell you a tubing kit. I always offer to let our patients take the tubing kit with them when they leave our office after having a nebulizer treatment. Otherwise it just goes into our trash.

I don't understand why, but a lot of pharmacies do not carry nebulizer supplies other than the actual medication vials. You could try calling around to several different pharmacies just to see if they carry nebulizer supplies.

Good luck, and I hope your daughter is much better very soon.

Call the nearest hospital and talk to respiratory therapy. They should be able to tell you where to get help if they can't do it themselves.

an independent pharmacy would have them -not a chain pharmacy. Or most home infusion companies carry them also

i also suggest resp therapy dept of local hospital. I know they will have what you need. Whether they make you go through ER to get is another issue.

This has been our experience, too. None of our chain pharmacies carry them, but the little Mom & Pop pharmacies do. I've also found them at places that sell/rent home health aids. I hope your DD feels better soon!

Thank you for all the advice! DH had the brilliant idea to call around to our friends and see if anyone had one. Turned out older DD's friend had a supply of brand new ones so DH drove over in the snow to get it. On Monday I will visit our local family run pharmacy to stock up. Thanks again!

I was going to say the same thing--I have about 6 of them sitting with our nebulizer. Next time you are in the dr. ask for a couple extra tubes and parts just to have on hand.

You can still use the neb without that piece, you just have to shake the medicine down more so it takes a little while longer (at least with our's you can).

we have never found neb tubing or anything at chain pharmacies where we live. There is one little Mom and Pop pharmacy that we frequent because they do have the stuff...and no RX required unless you want it billed to your insurance (which most will pay for ....durable medical equipment).

Glad you found what you needed. I was going to suggest visiting the local volunteer fire/ambulance station. If I was on duty and given your situation, I'd gladly give away a nebulizer part if it meant that I would not have to be visiting your house later on a 911 response.

we used to have this problem in virginia...none of the chains carry it and the only real pharamcy was 45 minutes away.

Now in LA we go to Cedars Sinai Hospital every week for doctors appointments and they sell them there so we stock up everytime we only have 1 or 2 left.
