where are u shopping for ur tween?

So I have questions. This is not a slam purely just questions.
Do you allow your DD's to just pick clothes and then you pay for them or do you give them a budget etc?
Do you teach them to look at price tags or do you not care?
Do you steer clear of brand names or is that a big deal to you and or your DD?

I tell DD - I am willing to spend X and for X I expect to get X
Example: I will spend $100 and I expect 2 pants and 4 shirts

DD looks at price tags, she contemplates a purchase and will say things like "no, I don't love it" and will put it back. Makes me proud :goodvibes

One day I was in Justice with DD and we had this huge stack of clothes. The lady in front of us had 1 outfit. Her 1 outfit was more than my 10 or so shirts, couple of pants, a skirt and some capri's - all off the sale rack and with a coupon. She was amazed, she returned her purchase and made her DD start over on the clearance rack. Her DD was none to happy and the Mom commented to me she had no idea they had such "cute" things on clearance. Might I add that Justice clearance racks are awesome, they are not full of damaged goods or even out of season stuff.

anyway, I was just curious:)

We always start in clearance, and my dd will definately shy away from expensive items when she looks at the tag. However, she does like labels, and I have no problem with that - I liked labels when I was her age. Also, certain brands fit her better - we've gotten jeans from Khols, and they just look goofy on her, even the juniors. I still remember a friend I had in JH, who was only allowed to wear Levi's/Lee's during the 70's designer jean era - she really resented her mom over that.

They pick what they want and if it's not too expensive I buy it. If it's more than I am willing to pay and they really want it, they will either pay for it themselves or I will pay for half of it.

My girls look at the price tags, especially my older one. Since they sometimes pay for their own things, they understand. At American Eagle, my younger one will sometimes wait for things to show up on clearance if they are really expensive because she is in that store ALL the time (once or twice a week). They also got away from the mentality that they have to buy something everytime they step foot in AE. They have learned to "window shop"!

I don't have a problem with the name brands. I'd rather spend a little more for quality. A couple of years ago we were shopping at Limited Too and everything was just junk, it didn't hold up long at all. My DD14 passes things down to my DD12, too. She takes very good care of her clothes so they are in great condition when DD12 gets them and DD12 loves it. We try to get things on clearance or on sale. I don't have a problem with clearance, it's the same things that were on the "expensive" racks a couple weeks earlier.
