I am really liking Curves! The time goes by so quickly, it hardly seems like exercise. It's probably psychological, but I feel my triceps firming up already!

Do you have a favorite machine? I like the one that you stand on and "kick" backwards. I swear I can feel it whittling away at my very ample backside! LOL

Least favorite machine? Gotta be the one that you twist on... I hate it, it's uncomfortable and I don't feel like it's doing much!!

I'm not a CurveyDis'ser, but I wanted to say congratulations to you for enjoying the exercise! I bet it's not your imagination that your tricep is firming up! :) That's great news!!!

Woo-hoo!!!!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I absolutely LOVE Curves! I call it "mindless exercise", because you just do it and don't have to remember how many reps or what settings to use for each machine.

I'm also getting to know some of the other regulars there, which makes it even more fun!

We just got that glute machine you were referring to. One of the others calls it the butt machine. They were setting it up yesterday while I was there, so today will be my first chance to try it.

The oblique machine is not my favorite, either, but boy, I sure do feel it! I think my least favorite is the squat machine. I'm soooo glad when THAT 30 seconds is over.

I think my favorite machine is the ab machine. Not necessarily because I like it the most, but because I NEED it the most. ;) I usually make that one my first or second machine when I start the circuit and do that one a FOURTH time each day.

I'm interested in joining Curves, and two just opened up near me. What does it entail? What are costs? Can you go more than the reccomended amount?
tia

My favorite machine is the leg machine, open and close one. Though any machine that works my legs and behind are my favorites.

The least favorite is the machine that you do arm curls.

On the ab machine where you twist, how close are you sitting towards your hands? I went to another Curves and I was told to sit closer to my hands, it felt awkard to me but you can feel it in in your sides. I am actually starting to lose those love handles as they are called.

it is fun going when you see the same people each time you go. I met several people there that I don't think I would change the time I go excercise.

Bekkiz, Curves uses hydrolic equipment. You are on pieces of equipment for 30 seconds than you are on a walking pad for 30 seconds. Every so often they have you stop and take your pulse for 10 seconds. The whole workout takes 30 minutes. You can go as much times as you like but they do recommend that you go at least 3 times a week. You can go to other locations not just the one you join at.

As for cost, when I joined I had a joining fee I think of $79 and then it costs me $29 (I have them take it directly out of my checking account.) You can either pay it in full (for a discounted rate), checking account withdrawal for $29 or pay monthly by personal check or cash for $39.

Curves does have a website you could check out. I am not sure if the cost is the same across the country. You may luck out and they may have a special for grand openings and waive the joining fee. You should be able to just go and check it out first before you join.

There is also several threads that have more explanations about Curves. You can do a search and possibly find the threads.

There are several people that go to Curves on DIS so they should be able to add on to this.

You will love it. 30 minutes goes by so fast and you do start to feel results quickly.

Another Curves lover here! :) I went yeaterday, DH is coming home on time tonight so i can go, and hopefully go tomorrow. It will be the first week to go 3x! (I usually make it 2x and last week only 1x)

My least favorite machine is the one that goes over your shoulders. I do the ball against the wall instead.

My favorite is probably the kick back one - take my butt, please! :)

I just love how you are in and out of there in just over 30 minutes. But it still feels like you are getting a work out. When I went to Jazzercise it really killed my knees with all the jumping around. Curves doesn't do that to me.

Jill

Glad to see more Curvey Dis'sers!! I can't wait for my first weigh in and measure!!

Hello my Curvy friends.....another Curves lover here! My second weigh/measure is Friday. My first one showed no weight loss, but 3 inches lost.....and entire inch from my waist! My clothes are fitting differently already.

Hey Mermaid....our Curves doesn't have that kick back machine you're talking about....I'm going to have to ask about it.

If all goes according to plan....I'll be getting my 5lb clippie on Friday....I'll keep you posted!

Another Curves girl checking in! My favorite machine is the one you do for you shoulders- you push out with your arms. It makes my back feel so much beter and I don't wake up in the morning sore because me weight was too much for my shoulders. I can't do 2 of the machines. The one you put on your shoulders or the waist twister. My knees won't allow one and my back won't allow the other- so I just skip them. Are there other excercises you can do in place of them? I've been going for just over a month- and they said I need to have at least 15-18 visits before they wanted to measure- so I'm waiting another couple of weeks. I was going twice a week- now I'm going 3 times a week. Don't know about weight loss yet- because I just started last Thursday.

That's the machine we just got at our location yesterday. I think they have to have a certain number of members at that location before they order more machines. If I recall correctly, they start out with 8 machines and gradually work up to 12? Our location qualified after the food drive special last month!

Ask how many more memberships they need before they'll order it and start bringing in all your friends. :p

Karebear1 I have never heard that you had to wait for so many visits until they measure you. I had thought they measured you on a monthly basis so you can see your progress. Have you considered maybe doing a machine twice for the two machines you can not do? (As long as noone is on them)

Great job in going 3 times. Let us know how your first weigh in goes.
:D

I'd never heard of it before either. I was a member of Curves when we lived in Michigan so I'm pretty familiar. But this gal said they didn't want to discourage me with small results because I'd only gone 2 times w week vs. 3 times a week. I think this curves is a little different. I waited at least a month for them to start up a new group for the Curves diet- they told me they were going to. But when I asked about it last week- she said they didn't know when they would start- probably the middle of May because the guy that owns the company had written a new book that was going on the market on April 24 and they didn't want to start another group before they knew what if this book and if it would effect the diet or not. I don't know- I got tired of waitnig and went on Atkins last Thursday. It;'s really a shame. They lost a gauranteed person on the diet plan. CUrves has really changed since I first went to it. They seem to be pushing their products too much for me. AT the old curves we could join the diet group for $8.00- the cost of the book. Here- in order to get into the group, you have to pay $89.99- for the book and 3 of those canisters of diet shakes. I asked if I could just buy the book and come to meetings and she said no. SHe said that people drop out of the program if they don't have a substial amount of money invested in it. So, that's just one more reason I'm doing it on my own. ANyway- I really like the work outs- they're easy and quick and I'm never tired, sweaty or sore!

I really enjoy Curves too! I just had my 2nd monthly weigh-in, and I've lost a total of 3.5 inches. Yippie! My weight has stayed exactly the same both months (not really, really I managed to put on some weight then lose it again in time for the weigh-in, but I intend to change that with this month!). I'm really happy with my progress. Now that I'm more committed to WW, I hope my Curves results will be even better. :sunny:

Thanks for that tip! I'll have to ask. They've added one machine since I've started, the waist trimmer. The location I go to has only been open since January.

I'm a "Curvy Diser", too! My absotively, posilutely most hated machine is the one you stand on and you raise and lower the bar in front of you. I watch the other people and they make it look so easy. I can barely lift the thing! I know I'm a weakling, but sheesh!!!

My 11 year old DD joined 2 weeks ago and goes with me now! When we went this morning, we played Follow the Leader! First she would decide what to do on the cardio pads (or as I call them "bouncy boxes") and I'd have to do the same, then the next time I'd decide! It was fun and we were creative! She liked it until I started to sing along with some of the songs and embarassed her!! heehee:p :o

My 13 yo dd has her first workout tonight. She is kind of bummed because her friend (skinny little friend I might add) said, "So you spend a total of 1:30 on each machine? That's not going to work." I told Meg she would just have to prove her wrong!!

Gotta love Curves! I'm having trouble with the"squat" machine. I really feel it in my arthritic left knee whenever I do this one - sooo, I don't do it! I've noticed that I can have a much more vigorous work-out with more effort. (funny how that works!)

I'm here! I had my first monthly weigh/measuring yesterday. 7.3 pounds and 3.75 inches. I think that I will continue 3-4 times a week, and I have added WATP for the off days. I'm pleased. . . .but I want more! :jester:

My favourite machine is the abs, and my least favourite the pec-deck. I have no strength in my arms. I really work on the squat machine. I usually do @ 12 in the 30 seconds. We are getting the twelfth machine next month. We'll see how that one goes.

Hi everyone! I went for my first Curves workout today! It was a lot of fun! (It is also a lot like the circuit training system they had at my old workout club that cost 2x as much a month)

I've been walking and doing the 2m WATP tapes but I needed more! My center is offering a half price joining fee right now so I took advantage of that.

Minniecarousel - you might want to try to do heel raises on the squat machine to get a bit of a workout without harming your knees. (depending on the hydrolic setting, it may or may not work)

Cthia - on the ab twisting machine, I was trained to lean forward with your face between the two handlebars (which is I think the same as sitting near your hands) - It is not comfortable!

I'm looking forward to keeping up with you all!

Good Morning Fellow CurvyDis'sers!!

My name is Lorelei and I've been "Curving" for 2 weeks now. My 13 year old daughter goes with me and I must say it helps- when one of us doesn't want to go, the other MAKES them! Find a buddy if you need motivation- after I go I feel SO MUCH BETTER!!:teeth:
