Does it matter if we're on the left or right side of ship?

(we're considering the Magic Western)

After our experience recently in a Cat 3 room, I'm not sure I would ever stay in a Cat 4 unless it was under the part of Topsiders/Beach Blanket that is carpeted. We were in 8048, which is just about the middle of the ship and every night we were awakened by CMs rearranging the deck furniture above us on deck 9. They were dragging the tables and chairs back into place, and made a lot of noise on the wooden deck. Also, the night of the deck party, I would think that all of the rooms in the middle of deck 8 would be very noisey ( I know ours was).

If we go again, I would love to have a Cat 3, but...... would probably opt for a Cat 5 or 6 just to get some peace and quiet at night.

When we choose our cabin in February of 2001 (for our cruise in 8 weeks!!) we looked at the cabin layout in the DCL book and noted that the forward cabins on deck 8 are under the Spa - our cabin is 8510 (Cat 4) and is under the Hair salon and Spa Reception - we figured that the spa and salon closed at a resonable hour in the evening and open at a reasonable hour in the am - that is, around 8 am or so. We are up with our two kids anyway, so 8am would be like nirvana to me (LOL!!) But I doubt anyone will be waking us up in the middle of the night making noise above us in the Hair Salon (I hope...)

If you are thinking about midships because of motion sickness, try Bonine - it worked wonders (no pun intended) for me when we travelled with RCCL last April - and book a cabin forward - no bars, no buffet and no deck noise (hopefully).

Have a great cruise!

We were in staterooms 8054--8060 in July and had no problem with noise. You could hear activity on Deck 9 from the verandah, but with the door closed the rooms were quiet. (However, our next-door neighbors--DBrother and DSis-in-law---did complain about the noise coming from OUR cabin one afternoon! The kids were playing with a beach ball, bouncing it (and themselves?) off the walls...

We have stayed in 8030 and 8530 on our 2 cruises. We heard a little noise once in a while with deck chairs etc. but the location on deck 8 and the midship elevators made it a great deck and location to stay. We like the location so much that we booked 8030 for our cruise in only 43 days (11/2/2002).

We've had 6538 on our past two cruises and it was great. Didn't ever notice any noise from the hallway or above. Parents had 6536 on our last and it looks like we will be on our upcoming as someone else has dibs on 6538.

We had 8012 and the hallway and above us was quiet, but directly opposite our door was the service door the stateroom host & hostesses use and from early morning on they were in & out and the door would slam everytime.....very annoying......We felt no excess ship motion being very far forward.....and liked that our hallway lead no where...so no traffic.....
