Where are all the men?

My niece always loved Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. She wasn't that interested in meeting the princess squad but she had to meet Hook and Smee every time. Now she is an young woman In her twenties who just came back from WDW and the pictures posted on her Facebook page are ... Captain Hook and Smee!

I'd love to see Poe and Finn! I know my boys would too! They could talk about their space adventures!! Maybe with the new Star Wars land.

My son really wants to meet captain jack!! I've had to tell him you can't meet him at Disney, which is a bummer!

My son loves meeting characters. It's one of his favorite things to do. I wish they had more non-princess face characters too. We would love if Flynn Rider were a regular meet and greet or characters from Pirates of the Carribean.

Would also LOVE if they'd add Boba Fett as a meet and greet!! I know he isn't a "face" character, but to have a rabid Star Wars fan along and go see Boba on stage and know there is no way to meet him anywhere will be frustrating.

I agree though that they need more guy characters represented.

Does Jack Sparrow still meet during regular hours?
I don't think he ever formally met outside of Hard Tickets....

It sucks though that allot of the Princes/Males do only meet at such events like Halloween Party, Christmas Party, Races....
I was lucky enough to meet Phillip, Flynn, and Cinderella's Prince a few years back when they did the Limited Time Magic promotion and had all the princes out for Valentines Week...also got to see Cinderella's Prince again in April '15 at 1900 Park Faire

For the money Disney pays I don't think they have enough young men lining up to take the job.

The young men can make more money doing something else. I'm sure the young women are thinking "hey it doesn't pay much but all I have to do is play dress up, smile and hug little kids all day" Most of the young men are probably thinking the exact opposite.

this reason Disney doesn't do this is because they will never be able to find someone who looks like the actors. Disney does it with princesses and princes because they are animated and it is easy for people to imagine that this it would the princesses would lok like it in real life. I cannot think of one live action character at the moment that is currently meeting in the parks that is a face character

Ah bummer! Guess we will have to live with Kylo Ren and Chewbacca!! Looking forward to them in August!!!

The one guy who played Jack Sparrow was a dead-ringer for Johnny Depp. It was crazy!

That said - I agree- I wish there was some some more male face characters. They are an important part of the stories as well. I know my grand-daughters would love to see Flynn Rider and Kristoff!

Where do you live that men in their 20s can make more money than women in their 20s? 1950?

You can meet Boba Fett at Disneyland.

This was the reason we decided to do the Christmas party last trip. My daughter (15) really wanted to meet Jack Sparrow and Flynn Ryder. Those were two meet & greets that she still talks about. It would be nice to do those outside of hard ticket parties though.

What about Mary Poppins and her friend...

Regular male face characters to meet:
Aladdin (Epcot, MK)
Gaston (MK)
Peter Pan (MK)
Mad Hatter (MK)
Tarzan (DAK)

Regular appearances by male face characters:
Prince Charming (Festival of Fantasy, Main Street Electrical Parade)
Prince Naveen (Festival of Fantasy, Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire)
Flynn Rider (Festival of Fantasy, Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire)
Prince Phillip (Festival of Fantasy)
Jack Sparrow (Pirates Show)
Kristoff (Frozen Sing-Along at DHS, Summer Games at Blizzard Beach, Elsa's Castle Lighting at Christmastime)
Snow Prince (Fantasmic!)
Prince Eric (Fantasmic!, Voyage of the Little Mermaid)
Bert (Fantasmic!)
John Smith (Fantasmic!)

Special male face character meets:
Flynn Rider (MVMCP)
Prince Charming (MVMCP, 1900 Park Fare)
Snow Prince (MVMCP)
Prince Phillip (MVMCP)
Bert (MVMCP, also pops up at DHS periodically)
Prince Ali (MVMCP)
Jack Sparrow (MNSSHP, MVMCP)
Tarzan (MNSSHP, MVMCP)
Peter Pan (Pirates and Pals Cruise)

I would love for this list to be longer, and I am still bitter about them cutting Naveen, but there is at least some male representation even if most of it is during special events or shows

It really is just a matter of popularity. The princesses are the stars of their movies, which are in turn the most popular Disney Animated films in general. Particularly in the older ones the princes are barely in them and have little in the way of personality. I can see the case for the newer characters, like Flynn, since he is more of a co-star.

I always assumed this was part of it too. Even when it's a character that was originally animated it's probably just easier to make an actress look like the princess than an actor look like the prince. Just because of things like fancy hair dos and makeup. Also the princess costumes are so much more elaborate than those of the princes. You know it's Cinderella based on her dress but you have to try a little harder to convince someone that it's Prince Charming in his more generic prince outfit.

True! forgot about Mary Poppins. No guy ones though besides that jack sparrow that used to meet on certain occasions. But even that is iffy because jack sparrow has a lot going with the hair, and facial hair and stuff to make it more easily believable. But for instance, Poe from the Force Awakens is just a white guy. lol so how do you get someone to look like a character that is really just a white actor dressing up as someone to begin with.

Disney doesn't really go after the male demographic. Sure they throw a few things into the mix from time to time, but overall its just something that is much more geared towards women.

Its been that way for a while but its going to get more and more lopsided as things are shifting towards being more female-centric. Males in today's society are unfortunately being pushed out of everything. Education, job opportunities, entertainment, etc.

LOL what?! They actually change the names and storylines of their movies to appeal to the boys (Frozen, Tangled, etc). What about Marvel and Star Wars? And entertainment panders to the male audience, so I see nothing wrong with Disney making movies that little girls can enjoy.

And as for your second paragraph, that is so incorrect on so many levels.
