When you buy resale????

Just a question. One day I'm hoping I can have hubby add to our points by resale. When you buy resale do you have to keep up with two seperate accounts or do they combine your points. I know if you do different resorts it would, I imagine, be seperate. But, what if you buy from your home resort with the same use year? Also, has anyone purchased from two different resorts? Is it a PITB to deal with?

Thanks :cool1: :earsgirl:

We have purchased several resales. We have 2 different resorts. All of our points at both resorts have the same use year. We have one membership # and one contract #. When I make ressies, MS just uses my points at each resort as if they had all been purchased at once. I believe that this is the case even if using points from different home resorts, as long as you are within the 7 month window. The only issue is knowing how many points I have at each home resort when I make a ressie 11 months out. I also make sure I know how many points I have at each resort when it comes time to bank. MS considers ALL of my points, at BOTH resorts, when computing percentages for banking.
If you buy different use years your life will be more complicated, but I know that there are many folks who do just fine with points in different use years. My pea-brain likes things simple.

When you have different use years it is a touch more complicated, but the benefit is that MS looks at banking percentages based on the number of points on a contract. Different use year get you different contracts, which works pretty well if you vacation more than once in a year.

We have 2 contracts...one purchased from Disney and one purchased resale. They are 2 separate contracts, with 2 separate Use Years. They do not combine them.

I did try and work it so my Use Years were close...we have one September and one October. That makes it a bit easier.

Basically, what I do is just keep 2 running totals for the separate contracts. It looks something like this(note all figures are made up):

200 points
-120 OKW studio April 3-10, 2005
80
-76 BCV 1 BR August 3-7
4 banked into 2006 UY 2/21/05 Bank #122334567 spoke with Susi

I find that to be the easiest way. There are folks who have created point charts etc. too.

if it's the same use year DVC would prefer to combine them providing the know it's a member. If they don't combine them up front, I'm told that they won't later. And the contracts must have exactly the same registration info for ownership.

Following on from this - we have just completed on an OKW June UY contract and I am waiting to get our membership / contract number from Disney. We have passed ROFR on another June OKW contract, how can I make sure Disney link the two contracts together?

Thanks

TinkTatoo, I reminded our broker for the resale more than once or twice that we were already DVC members and that we had the same use year, and that we wanted the new points put in our "old" account. She assured me that Disney would be made aware of this fact. We have had 2 resale add ons and they are all in our same DVC account. We have also done 2 add ons through Disney.

Question, obiwans:
If you do combine original contracts with add on contracts...do they all become one bigger contract of points when and if you decide to sell? Meaning that you must sell them all together?

I kinda understand the reason for combining (ease of accounting right?) but if you lose the ability to sell of some of the different contracts, then it is all or nothing right?

Colorado Belle

ColoradoBelle1, each of the parts of the contract can be sold individually. We have 200BWV, 50BWV, 150VB, 50VWL and 50VWL, all with our one membership number. The banking deadlines hold for the whole contract, the 500 points. So before the 50% deadline comes, we can bank all of the 250 BWV and none of the others if we want.

TinkTatoo,
We never even told our brokers that we had other contracts. Disney does, indeed, seem to know this and used 1 contract number.

At one point, we had 5 different contracts all with the same use year, but at different resorts. They all had the same contract number with a "." suffix to differentiate between them. ( contract #.0, .1, .2, etc... ) We never told our resale agents we had existing contracts, Disney figured it out on their own. This does allow the contracts to be sold separately if you want to sell later on. If your contracts have differing use years, I do believe they will have different contract numbers.

The differing resorts with the same use year weren't hard to keep track of. Just keep in mind the 11-7 reservation rule.

Good luck!

As long as they registration is the same they usually do it automatically. I'd remind the broker and DVC independently if it were me.
