When you aren't excited for your trip?

I know just the thing to get you excited for your road trip to WDW, and it’s stopping at this place along the way. 8-)

In all seriousness I think we all have a little trepidation before a big trip just as much as we are expected have excitement. There’s always the what if about all our plans potentially going awry, leaving the pets behind and then the mountain of work that’s potentially facing you when you get back. Hopefully once you get to WDW and can soak up all the Christmas decorations and relax at the resort you will make great memories with your family.

I am sorry you aren’t feeling the magic right now. :grouphug:

I traveled to WDW in December for decades, ten day trips like clockwork. The past couple of years I decided I needed a break and to not go on a December trip. I did continue to go to WDW, just during less busy times. This year, I am ready to try a December trip again, although only five days instead of ten. Taking a break was what I needed to get the holiday magic back.

If you think your family is also feeling a little ambivalent about the trip, a family meeting might be in order to find out how everyone truly feels and what each person, including you, needs to feel better about it (especially if you are in a position where you can’t cancel if it becomes overwhelming). That may mean cutting back on some of the activities, planning some down time to just relax or swim at the resort, or perhaps doing things you haven’t done before. When you visit WDW often, like we do, it’s easy to kind of get into a rut and plan trips that are very similar to each other. Sometimes the best Disney magic comes through spontaneity instead of planning.

I know you and your family enjoy going to WDW, but that doesn’t mean you will have the same level of enthusiasm each time, especially if you are dealing with other issues that can affect your emotions. Be kind to yourself, and know you are not alone. I hope you do enjoy your travels, wherever they may lead.

I have been in those shoes a few times. It definitely isn’t a fun place to be. But you can’t force yourself into feeling excited.

However, as @Dan Murphy said, once you get there the ho-hum feeling will very likely subside. It has to power to let you escape. Right now all your planning is done. You’re in the wait mode which as you said perfectly is just blah.

And then you start thinking about the holidays and the stress that is involved, I feel you 100%! (and if anyone says they aren’t stressful, then they are the ones not doing any work, or they don’t have your typical dysfunctional family)

And if it doesn’t get fun when you’re there, flip the script just like @gmi3804 suggested! Go rogue. Sometimes being spontaneous (even if it isn’t in your wheelhouse) is the spark that can ignite the feelings.

Lastly, you can’t find the Disney magic until you’re there, so live in your emotions now so they’ll be done and over for before the trip.

I definitely get it, as you can see a lot of us do. You’re not alone!

I think it just makes you human.

I don’t know about anyone else, but it’s hard for me to sort of get into the spirit of things when there is so much unsettling that’s happening in our world. I am a news junkie, and empathetic, so it’s hard for me to think about things like vacations and spending money when so many others are hurting. Our own real world awaits, though, still. (And I do what I can to help.)

Last month we traveled out of state to somewhere we’ve never been before for my DD’s graduation and we had a really good time. It was hard for me to get into it at first, though. I kept having the feeling it wasn’t going to happen, but it did, and I’m so glad we went. Next month we have a wedding we’re attending and we’ll do a little side trip to Disney. I am looking forward to that and am mostly already packed since I put things aside while unpacking and doing laundry. I always find packing and getting ready home-wise pretty daunting. We unexpectedly booked a small winter trip when our DS asked us to come to a tournament he’s playing in, and that one feels far away, but I’m looking forward to it now. We normally don’t travel so much in such a short period of time but I say, why not. Life is short and we’re not getting any younger. We’ve been doing a lot of work around our house and working hard at our usual jobs so it is nice to get away from that for a bit.

I agree with those who say you’ll likely feel better once you get there. If you’re feeling overwhelmed because it’s “the holidays”, then make it easy on yourself. We went to WDW over Christmas last year for the first time ever and it was the best because we made that our celebration as a family (and let things go at home). Give yourself permission this year to go easy on yourself and not try to do “everything”. We all need a break sometimes. :flower3: Maybe that will help.

For those who might recognize my user and remember prior posts - we cancelled our Vegas trip, too. I just was blah. Blah about flying, blah about the money, blah about feeling fat in a skinny world, blah about sucky clothes.

So now despite being blah about Disney in two weeks, DH and I are going to Disney just the two of us in May.

So funny, just blah. Everything is blah. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Aww, I am sorry to hear Vegas was canceled. You had VIP for O.

You are in the blahs. Hugs to you, @eksmama01.

If only the rest of the DIS knew how funny this was for us :D

:grouphug:dear Eksmama and love always my friend, too. you are courageous, honest, and so wise as well. Amen! Every moment is a blessing. Time with those we love and care for in any circumstance is a privilege that should be cherished. I absolutely pray you have a wonderful trip, you know that. Take care of yourself. I admit to not being a journal keeper, no patience, that can be a wonderful outlet. I have also read of some families especially creating blessing jars. Each person adds to the jar a scrap of paper with a gratitude of any magnitude on it. A few times a week, every night, anyone who wants to picks one paper out of the jar and shares it or does so with something not yet written down. Little things. I will send you some mail in the coming week to I pray bring you an extra smile.

Thanks my friend.

Dis, if you don't know this lady, she's someone to know. Always kind, praying, uplifting. I am blessed to call her my friend IRRL, too.

I felt exactly like this for our recent trip out west to DL and the Bay Area. Had fun planning it but as it got closer I started feeling less and less excited about it. Once we arrived at the DLH he feeling didn't leave. I kept thinking this is WDW and I didn't feel sure that I could shake that feeling. When we woke up the next day and headed to DCA I started feeling more in vacation mode and the excitement started returning. By the end of the day at DCA the blahs were pretty much gone and I got more into the trip. By the end of of four days at DL I was in full vacation mode and excited again.

Aww what a super sweet message, thank you dear Eksmama. You are a blessing from God in my life, too!

Maybe it's time to do something you've never done before. I don't know your travel habits, but I'd be pretty blah about going to WDW too. IMO there's nothing more exciting than going to a new destination especially if it's out of this country.

I’m sorry you are feeling blah and not excited about your upcoming vacation.
I do hope once you get there, it will be fun for you and your family.

As a coworker of mine always says, “This too shall pass”
Positive thoughts and prayers for you 🥰🙏

Just to clarify when I said "out of this country" it wasn't meant to be derogatory. I love traveling in the States... I just think international travel is really exciting and a nice change.
