How would you use the card if you had also purchased the Dining Plan?
We are AP holders going in Nov. and March. We are on the DXDP in Nov. and havent decided yet on March. We will use this trip as a guide.
Should we purchase the card anyway?? How long is it good for?
Any advice
Thanks

You can use it if you buy any items off-plan at participating restaurants (like appetizers or alcoholic beverages). If you are on the deluxe plan, chances are you will only be using it for alcoholic beverages.

If you're only going to use it for adult beverages, you might want to make sure the card will be worth the fee you pay to sign up for DDE. You'd need to buy over $300 worth of alcoholic beverages on your trip to recoup the $60 fee you will pay for the membership.

the membership is good for a year. If you have more trips planned within the next year and you want to use the DDE for more than just beverages on a dining plan trip, then it may be worth it for you.

Thanks for the response. I would only use it for extras in Nov. but in March we will most likely do the regular plan (use it for apps and drinks) or just use it by itself. I know in March it would pay for itself.
Can you explain the tipping if you are on the plan???
You tip based on the meal (w/ the plan) and then another tip based on using the card (for drinks/extras)????
Thanks

We're doing a combination of DDP and DDE. Last night we went to Jiko. We had appetizers and alcohol that was about $125. We ended up with three receipts.

1) The tip for Jiko was not included in the DDP.
2) The receipt for the DDP showing how many we had left
3) The charges for our non-DDP stuff and the tip for that stuff

It was super easy to pick up the DDE card. We just went to Guest Relations outside of Epcot.

if you are only getting an AP for the year (not renewing) but get the card 6 months in is it still good for a year even if you won't have an AP anymore?

(does that question even make any sense?)

We didn't purchase the DDE card the same day as our AP and it was good for about 13 months. We purchased the AP on May 15 and the DDE on the 19th and it expires June 30, 2009. All that is necessary is that you have an AP at the time of purchase.

Go to Victoria and Albert's. It's AMAZING plus you will pay for a good deal of the card with that meal alone.

Seriously, everyone should do it at least once.:)

so you do actually tip twice, thank you for that.

you don't tip twice... the tip is already calculated on the "extras" for which you're using your DDE card... and you then calculate the tip for the DDP stuff which is on a separate receipt. You don't tip twice... these are separate items you're tipping on.

Yes. This is the correct method that is used for billing.

If you do, you have to be in the main dining room - the card isn't accepted at the Chef's Table.

Once this thread becomes a discussion of tipping, per board policy it will be closed and the tipping questions referred to the tipping info thread.
